DESCRIPTION:
These fractured, yet crafted, random yet profoundly organized instruments are the creations of Phil Sylvester of Pheo Guitars. They are the very epitome of functional art - they play, beautifully, even startlingly well. They are consummate instruments that press hard at the boundaries of what we normally think an instrument "should" be. From Pheo you will find remarkable guitars and amplifiers made from found objects and crafted elements - old instrument parts, hairdryers, grills, vacuum cleaners, etc. all deconstructed and reassembled into a whole that only vaguely resembles, and certainly transcends it's origins.

JET CUSTOM
The Jet Custom is made from repurposed '50s and '60s American guitar wood. The body and neck are from an early '60s Guild, Honduras mahogany, with two 1/4 inch deep, inset, hard rock maple panels, front and back, from a '50s American lap steel. The fretboard is Brazilian rosewood, reradiused at 12 inches and refretted, 24 3/4 inch scale. The pickups are a vintage Epiphone mini humbucker in the neck position, a vintage Guild mini humbucker in the middle position, and a Holmes H455 in the bridge position. The middle pickup is out of phase with the neck and bridge. The knob with the white dot is a 5 way rotor switch, selecting neck, neck middle, neck bridge, middle bridge, and bridge pickups. The two lower knobs are neck and bridge volume. The last knob is a master tone. Using the volume knobs, itís possible to dial in any degree of out of phase tone for very broad tonal flexibility. The Jet Custom has a Tru Oil finish and weighs 7lbs 3oz.

PRICING:
- $5400.00

I know it is crazy, but I really like the look of this one. Price is stupid, but the guitar looks pretty cool to me.

If it plays startlingly well, I must have one.

Naw, not really. Interesting, but not my thing.

Well, first off, that built in kick stand just isn't happenin' for me. Then let's talk about the finish. For $5,400, I would prefer my artsy guitar not to look like they were running a little low on paint, and then used a magic marker to make a free hand border on the partially flamed wood section. The last thing I noticed is that the string through holes that were drilled had become elongated on strings 1-3. I hope that it's more a matter of making a necessary adjustment to get the guitar sounding right, but then that would be another issue for me, when I'm paying $5,400.

Just my thoughts, for whatever they're worth.

After reading Stratguy's post, I looked at the larger photos of the guitar. I agree 100% with his comments. The dark brown line around the natural finish part looks like I fricken painted it (as in not good). For that kind of money it should be way better than it is. The more you look, the more problems you can find. I still like the overall look, but, the builder should be ashamed of that guitar's finish work.

I do like the idea of the repurposed material being used - except maybe the pickups. But it is ugly - not artsy. And stupid expensive.

$5400 for a custom shop copy of a Guild Jet Star? Nah, I don't think so. Besides, if this one's anything like the Guild's it'll also have a tendency to fall over, when the built-in stand (meant to eliminate the need for a guitar stand) is used. Sorry, but Zal Yanovsky (of the Lovin' Spoonful - he played a Jet Star) isn't my guitar idol.

Actually, it's not a copy from what I understand.

This is a gutted Guild that would have been posted on this forum as something we found in the trash and took pity on.
Not take a router to, slapped on some parts and resold at an outrageous price.

Pretty shitty finish work for a $5400 guitar. Or a $540 guitar. The kickstand is stupid, and what's with the fucking reflector?

There is almost zero right with that. Possibly the worst guitar shown on this forum in at least

a week :embarrassed:
