Why does this bother me?

That's fine. We can use this thread for talking nonsense then. Like, suppose a guitar fell head-first into a black hole and got spaghettified. How would that affect intonation? And for how long would you be able to play cowboy chords?

OK, then lets talk pickguards.

Oops. I'm going to blame @Mongoose for this one. He quoted me twice about the pros and cons of tacos in another thread so, I'm sure it has nothing to do with me being an old man that can't remember shit. When I came back, I guess I went back too far. The body of the post was there but, there was no thread title so, I filled that in again and posted.

I can't come up with a single con of tacos.

Now I'm going back and forth between painting the Peavey a color I want or, leaving it black.

In the top pic, you see white knobs on a white pickguard on my very faint pink Strat. You will notice the two whites are not the exact same. In the second pic, you see the white knob stole from first guitar, sitting on the white pickguard of the Peavey and I can't live with the difference.

Could be your subconsciousness playing tricks. Have you checked the intonation?
"Have you checked the intonation?"

Yes, Wednesday?, it was killing me not knowing, I couldn't wait any longer. Everything was a tiny sharp. Low E string was massively sharp but, I had the room to fix it. The G string was what I was most worried about but, I didn't even have to cut the spring in half to make more room. I checked everything Saturday and everything was good except the Low E was a tiny sharp again. Didn't bother fixing it yet.

On the pink Strat, the white pickguard is important. If you take the pickguard off or, just turn the guitar over, I never put the trem cover on", it looks like the guitar is white, not very light pink. Pink is so light, it needs white next to it for comparison. 10? years ago, I bought a tort pickguard for this guitar, can't remember, from Pickguardian? Pickguard Heaven?? Wherever I got it from, it was not a great fit for a Peavey Predator like it was supposed to be. It didn't go far enough past the lower tone control. I filled it with wood putty and slapped some black paint on it and it was good enough. No, the screw stayed in the putty less than 10 years.

Ironically, a Fender pickguard is almost perfect, it covers everything but, the screw hole ends up in the cavity, below the lower tone control. I have tried, failed, many attempts over the years to make my own pickguards and not gotten better. I still have the original Peavey pickguard so, I tried to make it white again. Tried soaking in hydrogen peroxide in the sun. Nope. Tried sanding it. Nope.

It's white enough for a black guitar and if I kept the guitar black, I would be happy with black knobs.

And yes, subconsciousness is very busy playing many tricks.

These things are important. The tort pickguard on my Strat definitely improved the overall tone and worked wonders for my confidence, not only as a guitar player but as a person and a husband. It was a fine investment that saved me a lot of $$$ that would otherwise have been spent on therapy, or alcohol, or fallen women, or hummus, or a cult, or all of those. The only downside is the moment I beheld that Olympic White Strat w. rosewood and tort I immediately had a strong desire to own either a Jazzmaster or a Jaguar in the exact same livery. It's not as bad anymore, and I do sleep again, but the craving is there.
