Loving every minute of not worrying about other peoples problems. I recommend it to anyone who can afford it. I would have posted this on the actual date (Aug. 20th) but hey , I got distracted.

I had a classic retiree moment yesterday. I overslept for an appointment.
It was a 2;00pm appointment!
For a massage!

It's funny, I had a lot of trouble in the weeks after I made the decision to retire (for real) and the weeks before the retirement date but slept like a baby afterward. My last day of full-time employment was 12/31/21. I realize I was fortunate - I had the ability to retire without undergoing financial hardship and that is real privilege.
 
11 years for me. Still my favourite part of retiring is usually not needing to wake up to an alarm. I often wake up earlier than I did for work but for some reason I never feel as tired :shrug: Retiring was my career goal starting about 35, I'm sorry it took me longer than I wanted but as it was my goal and we have no kids it came earlier for me than for some but not early enough IMO
 
I was involuntarily retired 10 years ago. The lack of income gives few/no choice to do much with the massive amount of time available. I feel guilty for not taking better advantage of this time. I feel much more guilty for not contributing to the household other than maid service.

Sorry for the downer venting.
 
I retired JAN1 2025. I will claim my SS later this year. My match shows if I wait until I am 70, I will have to live 10.5 years to reach the break-even point of claiming at 62.

I told my wife she can retire once I start receiving SS. She will be a few months shy of turning 56. She may take a less stressful job for benefits.

And no, I do not have as much money as I have good looks.

That was my last day of work also. I have zero regrets retiring when I did.
 
I accidentally did the math on how many DAYS I have left, because the numbers lined up and I'm a little mathematically compulsive. It's well over 500 wakeups, but knowing the number is enticing. And is motivating me to stick with my investment plan and to show up with enthusiasm every day. I'm just trying not to start a count down.
 
I started getting SS about a year or so ago not because it was the best deal, given my relative health and family history living to 90 is reasonable (even if I'm not sure I want to) but because I absolutely don't trust the government to make the expected payouts. So a bird in the hand...

plus it's nice to get a monthly paycheck without actually having to do any work :Wave:

Except the life time of work you spent paying into SS...
 
Well it wasn't a lifetime and it wasn't an option, if it was I'm pretty sure I could have done better than the government on investing that money :shrug:
