2025 Concert Thread

Knox in Box

Rustbelt refugee.
Anything lined up?

The wife said okay to this this morning. So psyched, wondering what the prices will look like. 04 February is in Cologne.

I'm a straight, cisgender male so I've never really desired an intimate evening with Jason Isbell. I'd sure love to see his show, however!

Sounds fun - hope you kids have a great time! I don't go to a lot of shows these days because of my poor, abused ears.

Yeah, I'll admit that I found that wording a bit strange as well. I mean, it's just him, his songs and a guitar, but yeah....

We've got excellent seats to see Gillian Welch in Santa Fe in February. I haven't seen those guys in about 8 years so I'm super excited for that one.

There's nothing else on the 2025 calendar yet, but I do have tickets for Cracker and the Beat (Belew, Vai, Levin, Carey) tour next month.

I’m going to take my son to see GWAR next time they come around, assuming that I can get him to go. When I told him that there’s a fat half human half cow space barbarian with four dick nipple udders who sprays you in the face from 30 feet away before he kills the president he didn’t understand why anyone would want to see that. So I’ll lie to him or something and let him learn about GWAR the right way—slipping around in a puddle of fake blood in the pit. I don’t have any other plans yet.

Trouble @ Cobra Lounge in January, Tom Bukovac & Guthrie Trapp in February @Martyrs and Amyl and the Sniffers in May @The Salt Shed.

Got my tickets for Jason Isbell, funny that his sources all call it simply "An evening with Jason Isbell" while the German sources are the ones that added the "Intimate" to it. Lol

Just got back to the hotel from the Jason Isbell show. My lord what a great experience. Took place in an old church with a sold out crowd of about 500, so still pretty cozy. He played quite a few new songs and I can't wait for the album now. Ridiculously good, and his voice was soooo much better than when I seen him in 2021. He was not slouch there, but this was absolutely a new level altogether.

Highly, highly recommended.

I got tickets to see Wide Mouth Mason in Burlington, ON at the end of March.

I haven’t seen them live since 2019 when they did the Big And Wide tour with Big Sugar.

Saw:
- Martin Sexton at the Birchmere in January. Doing his Abbey Road show. The first set is Abbey Road front to back just him, his guitar, vocals, and whistling. Awesome show.

Got tix for:
- Snow Patrol at the Anthem in April
- Hozier at JLL (moved from hoping section)

Hoping get tix for:
- Ringo & his All Starr Band at Wolf Trap
- Dispatch, John Butler, G Love at Wolf Trap
- Avetts (ideally at Wolf Trap)
- DMB at Bethel and MMP

Wanted tix for:
- Sierra Ferrell at the Anthem, but they only have GA standing left...the lines are ridiculous for GA at the Anthem
- TTB at the Warner, but they passed on doing their regular late winter early spring residency, also
- TTB at Wolf Trap, but they're co-headlining w/ Whiskey Myers and after listening to their 1st three albums, I'm not interested (especially as they're closing one of the nights)

Might go see:
- Alison Krauss & Union Station at Wolf Trap

Waiting for the first large drop of Wolf Trap shows next Tuesday, and keeping an eye out for the local venues for other shows of interest.

Ben Harper is playing The Lincoln Theater in DC on May 30th...hoping this is a lock and doesn't conflict with any other important impending shows.

On Friday night some local hardcore and death metal bands are playing a show at the campus ministries building (which is not actually on campus) so I think I’ll take my kid to see that. He’s 13 and still wears kid sizes so I’m not sure if I’ll let him in the pit. On Saturday night I’m taking him to see Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats at a local theater. It’s a 1,000 person theater with seating in the balcony so that should be good.

Friday night I saw Derek Gripper and Rahim AlHaj. Holy Jeez Louise, unbelievably good. Musicians with a capital M.

Wolf Trap dropped their first/biggest round of summer shows, highlights for me include:
- two Avetts shows
- two Paul Simon shows
- Taj Mahal and Keb Mo (together)
- Ringo (All Starr Band)
- The Roots
- Dispatch mini fest (great lineup)
- Iron & Wine/I'm With Her (co-headline)
- BNL
- Lyle Lovett
- Ziggy Marley/Burning Spear (co-headline)

Of potential interest:
- Jacob Collier...still not sure how I feel about him. Excellent musician, but the timbre of his voice doesn't hit my ears well...
- Alison Krauss & Union Station...they'd prolly be a lock if Dan were still in the band, his voice is stellar.

Still a bunch of dates open, wondering what other delights the season might bring to Wolf Trap...
