Julian Lage is one of the two new guitarists in his band (or so it seems). The version we saw in April was great, but Julian is a stellar player and I recommend anyone that's a Dylan fan and excellent guitaring, try to catch him this summer.

Ringo's also coming back this way to play the Anthem. It's the same band that he had at Wolf Trap last year and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same set. If he swapped out some of the folks int he band like he's done before, I'd definitely go again. He ain't getting any younger, but the way he's playing, singing, jumping around on stage, he sure doesn't seem to be getting any older. Heck I swear he's at least 20 years than his stated 86.

Man… I would love to see Dylan with Lage just to know what that is like.

I would love to see the Old 97s. Rhett Miller actually came to Wilkes-Barre, PA, solo a few years ago and I saw that.

Going to see Kurt Vile in Brooklyn tonight.
 
I just snagged 2 RUSH tickets for the first night in Toronto.

Lower bowl, on the aisle.


There are some second row seats for stupid money and you don’t get the package content as that stuff is not transferable.
It makes me wonder though, if someone resells their VIP or other package tickets, and the swag and perks do not transfer, where does all that stuff go?
 
I'm currently at a place called Punk Rock Tacos. My friends band, Calidius Timebomb is playing. Steve, their vocalist, is wearing a helmet that he made out of aluminum foil. The tacos are tasty. That's this weekend's concert. Oh, and that's Paul playing drums. We've been close friends since we were 15.

Bought a front row ticket for Robin Trower in October. I found a single ticket in the front row. the concert venue is my favorite in town. It's onl 10 minuts from home and I've never waited in a line.

I also bought a pair of front row tickets to The Pinapple Thief in November. Not sure if I mentioned that.
 
I think I've been scammed :/

My brother bought us Bon Jovi tickets for Edinburgh.

My mum wanted to come too as we'd seen them altogether years before but by that point they were sold out (last time they were here they were practically giving tickets away the week running up to it!).

I used a resale site which at the time had good reviews and looked legit. That was my Christmas gift to her last year!

however they've gone mad ripping people off with world cup tickets and the site has disappeared. Hopefully I'll be able to charge back on my credit card and work something out for another ticket.

on more positive news, James have a documentary (that looks great) that's doing 1 night only in selected theatres followed by a live set next month..the closest cinema was 40 miles away until the weekend where they added extra screens. I managed to snag the last ticket in a 15 mile radius.

Ripping show and I was lucky to get two shots of him playing the same guitar. He changed guitars pretty much every song.
 
The Cure were awesome. My nephew is 14, music daft and wanted to get down the front. I left him to it - sat at the back with a couple of pints listening to Mogwai supporting then found a spot with good sound.and took it in from there.

Much more of a greatest hits set than the first time I seen them.
 
No pictures at all for me last night…I think my wife snapped two or three, but N1 Tedeschi Trucks @Wolf Trap w/ Lukas Nelson opening.

Excellent show.

Lukas keeps growing in my appreciation. His band was a 7-peice:
- Vocal/Guitar (electric & acoustic)
- Fiddle w/ some guitar (mostly acoustic, but some electric)
- Bass
- Keys
- Drums
- Pedal steel w/ some acoustic guitar
- Percussion

More of country/Americana sound as opposed his more rock (sometimes almost progressive)/Americana Promise of the Real sound. His voice is just killer. he played a 14 song set, with three covers:
  1. "Here's one from one of my favorite songwriters." Willie's ("dad's") Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground, solo acoustic. When he plays acoustic, he channels Willie's jazzy playing...Lukas doing Willie, channeling Django.
  2. Petty's American Girl as a tribute to Dolly, full band. The lyrics obviously weren't written about her, but it was almost as if they were. Just a great version
  3. Then his Ladder of Love into another Willie tune "Bloody Mary Morning".
I can't recommend Lukas in any form enough.

Then TTB...you either know about their awesomeness or you're not gonna hear it from me. I find it impossible to put into words. This is 12-piece

- bass
- drums (1)
- drums (2)
- keys/vocals
- backup vocals/lead feature
- backup vocals/feature
- backup vocals
- trombone
- trumpet
- sax

Various mixes of these pieces throughout the night, with the core of lead vocals, guitars, double drums, bass, and keys being nearly constant. The setlist is here. 50/50 covers and originals. Cover highlights were:
  1. Dolly's Wildflowers with Susan on her Tele and Alicia and Gabe doing harmonies, very sweet.
  2. Two Sly tunes,
  3. Afro Blue,
  4. Willie the Pimp,
  5. C, S, N, & Y's Helpless...16 of the 19 musicians were on the stage for this, with 18 of 19 for the final tune.
The level of musicianship on the stage throughout the night should be obvious, but the power/expressiveness of the performances were what made it so incredible.

One interesting note, was that Derek seemed to play more traditional guitar than slide based on my previous times seeing him (twice w/ TTB and once w/ DTB). He's truly a special musician, the kind that's so good that if you don't like him...well, you don't like music.

Going back for N2, and despite the bar being set so high, I have no doubt they will dazzle me again.
