it, well, just sort of looks like a piece of shit.

it is a piece of shit. in fact, i think it's the definitive piece of shit. i think with the amp-in-case, they originally sold for $100 in the 50s and 60s. somehow, they manage to play and sound great though.

If a 1960 guitar in excellent condition is priced at $695, it must be a POS.
Sure, a 1960 anything doesn't have to cost $25,000-$250,000 to sound and play good, but the low value does make a statement!

not necessarily. Danos always had low resale value. Silvertones like this one (a rebadged Dano) were sold through Sears. they sold thousands of them as Christmas and birthday presents. most of them never saw any kind of use at all. there's also an entire industry dedicated to restoring them. so you get to see a lot in mint condition. they're budget guitars with a cult following that has been elevated in the past 15 or so years by offshore reissues. i play the RIs because i think paying this much for one is dumb.

I dig it. Like you said though, with the RI's out there there's no reason for a guy like me to pay almost $700 for one.

the new ones don't come with the amp in case though. that's the whole draw IMO.

my RIs aren't guitars though. one is a baritone and one is a bass. both with a 30" scale. (despite what Ellen might tell you)

El Borrachito has one set up for slide that is pretty cool. He got it back when they weren't worth anything though.

You can have someone open and close the case while you are playing to get a wah effect.

I wouldn't mind having one of those.

I've always liked the look of those, and the amp in case thing is awesome.

As I shared at HCGJ, a friend of mine had one of those back in the 60's and I have always wanted one. If I had the cash, that would be mine right now. It was a nice-playing guitar when played through a better amp. I like the headstock on that better that the Dano reissues. Then, of course, there is the nostalgia factor for me.

G-L-O-R-I-A, Gloria. :hippie:

I think it's pretty cool myself. Just no way I would pay that kind of money for it. In that kind of shape it is a collectors item, not a players instrument.

Just keep the guitar in another case, safe and clean, so you can play the hell out of the suitcase amp. :embarrassed:

Very cool. I can just picture some kid trying to figure out "Walk Don't Run" on it, lost in his own world while his parents clean up the Christmas wrapping paper strewn across the floor.

Yeah, then he gets frustrated because it is SUCH a piece of shit as to be almost unplayable,
he never plays it again.
Dad puts it in the attic, and then, one day....

it ends up here on GPOTD for 6X the amount it originally sold for.
