A couple of thoughts on weather / apocalypse

DISCLAIMER: this may make 0 sense. I'm having a tough time putting my thoughts to words. This is all liable to come out sounding totally crazy.

1) All these episodes of horrific weather and other devastating natural disasters - does it just SEEM like they're worse / more frequent now than before? The fact that everyone is so "connected now"... is that why things seem to be mounting up? Because we're finding / hearing about things that we otherwise just wouldn't have heard much about before technology reached the height it's at now?

2) On the note of natural disasters seeming more frequent and powerful, if things were winding to a close here... I don't want to use the word "lucky", but there have been plenty of generations that haven't seen one real significant thing. It's been a real ride in the short time I've been around. To see the end times... man... to be around for that...
 
Yes, gibby, it's all media hyperflow. Remember the Johnstown Flood? Of course not. Remember the 1900 Galveston hurricane? 1800 died. Mt Vesuvius? Mt St. Helens. Ice Age? See my post in the Joplin Tornado Video thread. Chiili out, young Padewan.

My hunch is that this is the case. The internet has magnified the immediacy and personal impact of these events, with first-person videos, live tweets, etc., being more the norm than the exception.

Having said that, I do think that pollution, urbanization, and deforestation have contributed to these unusual weather events, and we're seeing some broad, global changes in weather patterns. Good for some people, bad for others.
 
Tornado clusters are nothing new, and there have been deadlier examples than the current round in the 60's and 70's. I think the news media covers one, gets good ratings, and opts to cover more stories like this on the national level. The same goes for floods, earthquakes, and so on. These things certainly are seasonal and have long term periodicity due to global weather processes, and sometimes synch up by coincidence, and this combined with zealous news coverage can make things look bad, but I wouldn't be concerned that there is any pattern or significance to their occurrence.

Anyway, wouldn't you expect the biblical End of Days to be a little more dramatic?????

I feel so honored that this forum has so many voices of reason.
 
I remember the Johnstown flood too.

Of course being a Johnstown native helps.

But, it is strange in my travels and military relationships how many people including foriegners will ask if it's the same place where the flood happened.
