Question: AC15, DSL40, or Origin 50?

Considering a 1-12 combo as an alternative vibe to my Carr Rambler.
The Carr has the Fender thing covered in spades.
Looking for something different with some crunch and chime, less headroom, in 1-12 combo.
My instincts say Vox, as I’m not really a high gain kinda guy.

I had a AC15 and absolutely loved it. Spent the extra for the model with the alnico blue speaker and it was worth every penny.
If you compared the 2 before the purchase, in what way did you consider the Alnico Blue worth it? Headroom? A major difference in the eq? More pleasing breakup?
I kinda like the pleasant crunch they get out of the Greenback one on TPS. It seems to break up nicely at a not too loud vol. I doubt I would ever crank it to its full potential.

To me, the Alnico blue speaker is the iconic sound of the Vox amps. The alnico has more upper mids and when it breaks up they give you the classic Vox tone. Greenbacks will be a bit less compressed, 'dirtier', and have less chime.

If budget allows how about a Winfield Cyclone! Based off an early 60s AC15. I love mine and for a hand built amp it’s not as expensive as you’d think. Mine came in at under $1500 shipped with an Alnico Blue and it really outshines the current Vox offering, nice as it may be.

I’ve got a de Lisle amp based on the AC15 and it probably the best amp I’ve ever owned but they don’t make the 15 to watt one anymore.

I had a Winfield and it was a very cool amp. My dad has one of the Vox AC15 combos and it’s awesome.

I had an Origin and it was ok, not my thing. Not high gain at all though.

My ac15 is a 'forever amp' for me but if I already had an amp that scratched the fendery cleans thing, it'd be hard to resist pairing it with some marshall crunch

What about an Egnater Tweaker?
It can do Vox, Marshall, and Fender tones.

Thanks everybody for the input. I’m in no hurry. I need to move some old stuff to make room anyway. But eventually it looks like I want either the Winfield or the AC15 with the Blue.

I've owned 2 of the 3 in the thread title, and have played the Origin. Based on your desire for chime and crunch, allow me to agree with pretty much everyone else and go AC15 (or Winfield, or go really big and go Matchless...). I loved the DSL40CR, but not for chime.

I'm still not totally convinced "chime" is what I'm after, in of itself. I need to take the Gretsch to GC and actual play an AC15 and a Marshall DSL and compare the two.
The Vox "chime" may actually be too "spiky" for my tastes.
I'm more interested in touch sensitive mild amp distortion with a different, more mid focused, eq than the Carr.
Marshall could be the ticket, I've never owned or played a Marshall or a Vox. What I want may not be a British flavor at all. Maybe I want a low wattage boutique tweed combo, like a Victoria or something, I know what that sounds like up close and personal.

Tweed Deluxe clone of some sort?

I have almost purchased a Cyclone a number of times. I bet it would sound amazing in stereo with the Carr. FWIW, my experiece with alnico blues, they are nice speakers but I prefer Scumback Scumnicos, it's just a personal preference but they have a bit less of the spiky chime, I don't like that either, and they seem to be a little less efficient so you can push the amp just a bit more.
