I think most of you have seen my two Ron Kirn customs - one a traditional blackguard 50's tele one-piece swamp ash and one a strat with SD HHH pickups and compound radius neck in loblolly pine and between 6 and 6.5 pounds. I'm thinking about trading in the latter and getting one of three as my second (well, third since I have a 2-P90 Reverend that I can take places and not worry about.) I can't not turn gear over - just not in my DNA...

Anyway, I'm looking at Dave's Guitars - they've been good to deal with - and thinking about one of several potential replacements:
  • PRS S2 Standard 22 Satin (w/the US PUs)
  • Ric 620
  • Gibby LP Special or Studio
  • Gretsch Tennessean
  • Keep the Kirn

The recent LP Studios with the bound necks are REALLY quite nice. I have one in Cherry Sunburst, 7.8 pounds. I replaced the BB Pro pickups with Gibson 61 Burstbuckers, but that was more of a preference thing, the BB Pros were good, just a touch warm for my taste.

Wow - I'm a sucker for a plain maple top and that one has fantastic grain! I think I'm in love...

Of those, I’d probably choose a Ric—but didn’t you have a Ric and hate it?

Next up I’d probably consider the Studio because you already have something with P90s. But honestly, if you don’t have a plan or a clear need and there’s nothing bad/bothering you about what you have, I’d might be inclined to wait it out.

Like Peen, I'd go with the the 620. I'd quite like to get my Tom Petty jangle on with it.

Second place, I'd go with the Gretsch.
