a good friend had a Brat. it had seats and grab bars in the bed. cool car. at about the same time i had the GL 4x4 wagon.
i'm pretty sure the two shared the same engine/trans/4x4 system.
i took in a lot of places a car couldn't go. (the pic is generic)

My BIL also had one - with the jump seats and bar as mongooz noted - and he loved that thing. I think there's a market for a subcompact AWD pickup that is currently not served, to my knowledge.

I really wish this style of vehicle was still available in the U.S. Seems like the only options are old cars or overpriced imported utes.

Nobody even makes a basic small pickup anymore.

Nope. They all scaled up. The 2012 Ranger was the last small pickup. Whether cars or trucks, the American market keeps demanding bigger. I think every make and model is considerably larger and heavier than it was 10 years ago.

There's a couple factors behind the upscaling, one related to buyers.

First, all the safety equipment and regulations. Second, once all that safety equipment and technology is added, the pricing is generally uncompetitive with the same brand's full size truck that offers similar fuel economy but additional towing and payload capacity. Incentives on full size trucks basically killed demand for compacts

I miss seeing the little trucks. The Ranger got huge, the S10 was dropped for the Colorado, which is also a much bigger truck. I know everyone loves to bag on the S10, but I love my little pickup.

Glad you got a good one.
I had both a S-10 pickup and Blazer and both were shitty.

Fuck.... could you imagine if they made a modern Subaru Brat with one of the turbo-spec motors? The hipsters would fucking FREAK over one of those!!!
