Do they have this policy at your workplace?

Duller than cardboard
Employees are compelled to take time off.

The mandatory amount of time varies depending on how long an employee has been there, but in my case the magic number is 80. So if I don't voluntarily set myself 80 hours behind schedule in my workload obligations each year then I'm penalized and forced to forfeit those hours.

This makes no sense whatsoever.

I guess so.

We have a use it or lose it policy.
If I don't use up my vacation days be end of fiscal year, they are forfeited.

I use em up.

I take a week here and there, and then burn the rest by taking almost every Friday off during the summer.

I'm not saying I wouldn't love a day off, but it's just not a reasonable expectation at all. I'm taking two days off next week, and I'm already freaking out about scrambling to play catch-up upon my return.

But having to forfeit that time completely just sucks. Maybe I could use some of it next year or later down the road, you know? It might as well not be listed as part of the benefits package.

We can roll over 40 hours from year-to-year, otherwise, we are REQUIRED to take our timw off, and I have no problem with that.

I get personal hours that I forfeit if I don't use. But I also get vacation and sick days that do not expire. I just wish they could put it all in one big pool like my previous employer did. I have like 2 months worth of sick days built up, but I don't really take sick days since I just work from home or come in, anyway. And my boss is a stickler for not using sick days unless I'm actually sick.

I guess I'm not that compelled by my job, I take every vacation day I can get. I never have a backlog of work, though, so I guess I don't feel that pressure to get it all done.

No. But if you don't use it you lose it.
I'm in ops so it's incident oriented rather than project oriented.

We can roll over two weeks vacation time. anything more than that is gone - and we are not compelled to take it if we don't want to.

We have no policy like this. Senior people don't even have set vacation days. It is listed as 'at your own discretion'.

Yes. My current employer is very insistent that we use our time off. If you don't schedule your vacation, they will do it for you.
Seriously.

The university has a policy that we can roll over 240 hours, but the school of medicine (where I am) dictates that we must use all vacation accrued during a year in that year.

We have vacation time based on the number of years you've worked there. I think it starts at 10 days and goes up to 20 with 25 days on your 20th year only. Use it or lose it. And we are required by law to have 5 consecutive days off.

We also get something like 60 sick days per year, but that includes short term disability. If you miss more than a few days at a time, you need a doctors excuse, and probably more than 10 per year would get you fired.

We have to use 60 hours during the FY. After we use 60 any hours over 160 left they buy out. You can roll over the 160. After I use my 60 this year I'll probably have a check coming in June for about 50 hours pay (HNGD). Sick time rolls over for as long as you work there. When you leave you can "cash"it out by turning it into extended health insurance coverage.

The only thing I miss about working for bank is all those sweet holidays and generous vacation/sick/personal policy

We get nothing. No vacation pay, arbitrarily chosen holidays unpaid. 4th of July this year we found out wasn't paid when we got our checks. I need a new job. Srsly.
