Its a sickness, I should get help

Pine Apple Slim

Armchair Expert
After my long and laborious diatribe bragging about how Ive finally got this pedal thing figured out....
I just ordered 2 more.
An Exotic BB preamp and a Micro Qtron.
I really liked the RC for cleans but it lacked a certain edge when I dig in. The new Boss BP1w is great and I should be satisfied with it but curiosity got the best of me. I really like the gain sound I hear when the BB is demoed. What if I tried the BB and the RC together, either or, and stacked?
Still chasing a filter that plays well with my right hand, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and doesn't take up massive board space, so I decided to try the MicroQ and see if its any better than the old Boss AutoWah I got for free.

Obviously I need a professional intervention.

The microQ is a great pedal, but maybe too good in that:

1) It has was too much sweep on all controls, so it's not idiot proofed at all. It also reacts so different to whichever instrument you plug into it.
2) It boosts your signal quite a bit.

I still love it, but it's not perfect. I had a DigiTech that had like 8 different modes, one was perfect for my needs, but I was so pissed that the other 7 were total ass that I returned it.

All I want really is the appropriate quack when I play Shakedown Street that seems to jive with the way I attack the strings.
My first try was a little Maleko mini pedal. The sensitivity was almost impossible to dial in and the sweep was unsatisfactory, too narrow in range and too subtle.
2nd try was an even cheaper Donner autowah. It had a better sweep to the tone but was still tricky to get in the right place sensitivity wise, always too much or not enough.
3rd try was the SA Spectrum. It can get there but its still very hard to dial in and varies greatly depending on the guitar/pickups. Plus its mA hungry digital beast with way more options than I'll ever want or need and you cant just slap it on any old power supply. I like its BassBalls setting on bass much more than its low pass Jerry vibe.
4th-A buddy gave me his old Boss AutoWah. It actually works best of the bunch but its still very tricky to set up. Plus the power light is out and you cant tell its on till you play. Ive ruined the start of songs thinking it was off. I had my amp tech look at it. He changed the bulb but the light still doesn't work and he didn't want to dig any deeper.
Hoping I'll like the MicroQ, I like the form factor. We'll see.

Correction, I ordered the Nano Q, not the Micro Q, my bad.
I'm really hoping the smaller footprint will be adequate.
It arrived Fri but I haven't had time to tried it yet.
The BB pre is supposed to come today. Will report.

I went through a ton of auto wahs including a few of the ones you listed. The best I have found believe it or not is the Joyo Wow Wah cheapie from Amazon. Give it a try if the EHX sucks.

To clarify I need an envelop filter. Pedals labeled Auto wahs usually act as a filter and open to pick attack, but some of them just go wah wah wah at a set rate and arn't really responsive to pick velocity. But the Donner Auto Wah was a true envelope filter.
The Boss I have is the Touch Wah, which is indeed a filter.

yeah the Wow Wah is an envelope filter indeed

Ive had an hr or two now with the Nano QTron and the BB Preamp.
The NanoQ def has the correct tone & quack in there. I still need practice with the response and I need to experiment more with placement (right now Im bumping it with the RC Boost) but I can tell the sound is there. Easier to dial in with the SG/buckers than the Tele. Pairs really nice with a ph 90 after it too. I think once I get more familiar with it my env filter quest is done.
With the Carr running full power and clean, The BB Pre is really nice both as a mid gain OD and as a low gain "always on" similar to how I use a Blues Driver but with less "fizz", really nice "clean" tone
Havnt made up my mind which way I'll use it but its def gonna stay on the board for a while. If I have a complaint with it, altho its very responsive to pick attack, it doesnt clean up as well with the guitar vol knob as my Nobels or the Protein. It stays pretty much how you set it but just gets quieter and bassier when you roll the guitar vol back. So its prob gonna wind up being my "always on" set and forget preamp. At low gain it has just the right amount of grit when you dig in and is pretty darn clean when you dont. Seems to work equally well with the SG or the Tele.
