Let the sweaty, outdoor gigs BEGIN!!!

It was 90 and humid (heat index over 100) yesterday and I have THREE outdoor gigs over the next 7 days. :embarrassed:

First is an American Legion fundraiser with my old acoustic act, The Sandbar Bums. Been getting a lot of people telling me how happy they are we are playing again. I hope we can keep things glued together for a while to make a little cash before the wheels come off this wagon again.

Saturday is The Grooveheads at the South Bend Cubs baseball stadium. Always a good time, and we get to sing at the seventh inning stretch.

Wednesday is more Grooveheads at Kamm Island festival.... outside, big stage, pro sound so we just bring our guitars, amps, and drums.

Fortunately, each show gets shorter as the week goes on... 3 hours, 2 hours, 1 1/2 hours. :)

Suppose to play tonight under a tent - I think it's about to be cancelled with the rain and thunderstorms here now and all through the evening.

Are you the only person in the Grooveheads that was in The Sandbar Bums?

Our keyboard player was in it for a while at the end... the reunion group is pretty much the original trio. The bass player was in Grooveheads for a while but now we have a funk monster on the 4 string.

Holy Shit!!!

I will never take a tip jar for granted again..... The island party we played was a rather informal, outdoor show, so we were playing for tips.

At the end of the night there was over $375 in the tip jar. Not a bad haul this kind of show. :helper:

A big plus has been the iPad on the mic stand. At one point it was only for set lists and remote monitor mixing... but now I put lyrics and chords in for songs, organized by set so I can just flip, flip, flip. But then I also can add lyrics and chords for songs I don't know and have never played.

In each of the last two shows I was able to do "instant requests" with songs that I've never ever played. Just strummed through the chord changes and sang the shit out of them so people wouldn't notice if I stumble around on the chords. Two I remember were "Fortunate Son" by CCR and "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart. When people yell out songs and you can pull them out of your ass, that's usually good for a Jefferson.
