lol more facepalm from that "entertainment agency"

jbj

Poor old Geordie's array...
You may remember these clowns I posted about last week. An agency who were looking for acts to play, dj and run club nights for free....messedup0

They're at it again:

if you are intersedted in hosting your own open mics what we would be looking for is someone who can play the guitar well and has at least an hour and a half material also applicants applying for this postion would be required to book acoustic acts for the venue this is not essential although some experience would be an advantage however we will show you how to do this intrested in this add call

I may be missing something here but is there anything "open" about a night where the host plays for at least an hour and a half and actually books acts?

Edit: Maybe I'm just reading it wrong and they mean you book acoustic acts for different nights, so basically do their job for them

Maybe they want to make sure that whomever gets the gig can fill time if no one wants to play. But yeah, they want someone to do all of the work for them.

lol. I expect their next advert will ask for someone who can play for an hour and a half, book other acts, and also has some drink mixing/table waiting experience.

I dunno if it's different in the states but over here an open mic doesn't need to have someone playing at all times. A lot of the time there's be 5-10-15 minutes in between acts so people can have a chat and grab a beer.

The host will play a few (3 is the most on the bounce I've ever seen) and then open up the stage. In fact the most I've ever seen a host do in one 4 hour stint was 6 or 7 songs and 2 of those were with another performer...

To me it sounds like these bars want free / cheap entertainment so they're looking for someone who will essentially do a gig (over here most established bands playing good clubs will do 2 x 45 minute sets with a jukebox or DJ playing before, in between and after) and then have some shleps to keep the music going when this guy takes a break.

I'm in half a mind to e-mail them telling them they're a shower of arseholes and I'm in another half e-mailing to ask exactly why they want someone to have a minimum of an hour and a half's materil :)

That's one of the reasons I haven't played a gig in almost a year. A bunch of gigs the club was like "can you put together a four band bill?" So then I act as talent buyer and promoter for the club for no extra money and no guarantee so I finally said "fuck this, from here on out I am no longer going to play any shit gigs." My new band is almost ready to gig but we are only taking good gigs and focusing on booking opening slots for national touring bands.

I guess if bands are desperate enough that would work. And my guess is (at least from around here) that bands are desperate enough. It is really hard to get decent paying gigs around here right now....
