In fact it's the third time I recorded this one, but I wasn't really happy with it until now. A big part of what made the difference is gear related, a very certain piece of gear that made it possible for me to record it as a 'proper' guitar instrumental.. more on that in another thread..
Anyway, the composition, melody and chord progression is shamelessly inspired by traditional Scandinavian folk songs and hymns. This type of music would be written and played on crude, often homemade fiddles and flutes, or rudimentary church organs, that only worked well in a few keys, but there would be multiple variations on the same themes, and one single key change just before the turnaround. Then I simply added some of the Americana elements that I've grown so fond of in the recent years.
