I'm seriously considering one of these for my new 2-12 Origin cab, but I'm torn.
The Origin head gets mixed reviews, people seem to love it or hate it. I hear some people online getting absolutely lovely tones with it with greenbacks and humbuckers. But then again, a lot of people seem to be getting absolutely horrible sounds out of it and really diss the thing.
The DSL seems way more versatile and gets good reviews all around, but it doesnt seem to do what I hear with the Origin/Greenbacks. If I was gonna do modern metal the DSL is the obvious choice, plus its cleans seem more pristine and hifi. But I dont really do modern metal and I have My Carr and Bassman for cleaner things. Im kinda looking for that classic 70s-80s Marshall rock sound.
Im sure the 20w Studio heads made in England are much better than either but I dont really want to spend 2 grand on a head for a rig I'll probably play 25% of the time.
Anybody have a ORI20 or DSL20? What's your opinion of it?
Are the 40w versions worth the extra $s?
Are there other brands at similar price points that do the Marshall thing convincingly?
