Peavey Classic Chorus 2 x 12

CBHScott

How did I get here?
Old, MIA Peavey. Played one at GC today, and was extremely impressed (no wonder people loves them old Bandits). Other than a missing handle and some dust, appeared to be in excellent shape. Only asking $120. Woulda taken it home, but it is still pretty old, and not sure if I want to take a risk on the thing taking a crap. Plus, it is both loudand heavy as hell.

Also tried the Orange CR60c again. Very impressed again - really has some great tube characteristics (an analog Rockerverb). At 5 bills, though, still a hefty price tag.

Lastly tried a Fender Champion 100. Again, impressed - great Fender cleans and some good tones. Not as heavy as the Peavey, and does the cleans a little better. These Champions must be popular: they are sold out online almost everywhere...

I'd get the Peavey, stick it down in the basement, and never move it again. You could get "pro coverage" for $10, or $20, but it's a Peavey, probably last forever.

I gave $50 for a Fender Princeton Chorus, with cosmetic issues. Had to really hunt for it, see them up to $200 all the time. Much, much, much more portable than the Peavey.

I can just feel my back giving out...

My first to amps were Peaveys - Pacer and a Decade. At that time, the Classic was a sought after amp for us youngsters in Hawaii. Quite interesting hearing that amp name pop after decades.

The old peaveys were built like tanks. Some of them sounded pretty good.

I had an old classic 50, 2x12, hybrid solid-state / tube when I was a yewt. Sounded like ass... probably had a lot to do with the player playing like ass, but I blamed the amp. I had no idea how to dial-in a tone that didn't consist of everything on 10. It was durable though.

I'm still hanging onto a Peavey Classic 50 2x12. It's not real old, but it was made before they put an effects loop in it. I play through my Fender amps more these days (not nearly as heavy, don't need the 50 watts right now, and I guess I'm in my Fender period right now). One day, I'll put wheels on it, and play it more again. It has more knobs that I like to play with, but once I figured it out, it's a pretty sweet amp - from clean to dirty.

What is the Chorus? I really like the sound of the old Classic 50 2x12's (Tube, not solid state) though they are super loud. The sound out of the Classic circuit through more than one speaker is really nice to my ears. Always made me want to get an extension cab for my C-30, though I suppose I don't really need one.

Old school late '80s/early '90s SS that doesn't sound all that SS :). I believe it's virtually the same as the Stereo Chorus, but I am not all well-versed on old Peaveys as others here may be.

Gotta say, that newer model Fender Champion 100 SS/modeler is frickin' SWEET! Played one twice so far, and the cleans are amazing. Didn't play too much with the voicings or effects, but they are similar to what's on the SCXD/2, plus I like the relative simplicity as opposed to the Mustangs and having to tweak tweak tweak (no sag/bis setting issues, here!).

Yup, gonna pull the trigger on one to counter the DSL5c , and the Cab is gonna sound heavenly through it.
