my therapist and I have been working on being more assertive, standing up for myself, not being such a doormat. Well I was out there shopping for a muffler and they were really pushing this particular muffler but I thought they were asking too much for it, the old me would've just paid it and felt bad about it later. But I stood my ground, I calmly placed my palms on the counter, looked at that Meineke employee dead in the eyes, and said politely but firmly "no. No, not today. I am not gonna pay a lot for this muffler." it felt good! They didn't budge on the price and I wound up buying it anyways, but

Meineke comes from Meinhardt. It’s of German origin. Mein means strength. Hardt means bravery. It dates back to feudal times.

The next time you’re trying to negotiate a better deal at Meineke, call them feudal Nazis. Tell them you won’t stand for their ancestral oppressions.

I've heard of backroom, casting couch type negotiations for reduced repair costs.

You definitely don't want to try that at Pep Boys where you're dealing with Manny, Moe and Jack.
You'll probably come out of that room with a 'free' set of fake chrome valve stem caps.

Muffler-wearing guy is confused.

I finally put my foot down and unsubscribed to a news letter. I feel good about what I just did. I'm no longer such a doormat.
