Question: Pickup Winding

Does anyone on here wind their own pickups? I was wanting to try it out and wanted to know what all was involved. I know you obviously put the bobbin and magnets together and then wind the wire on with a pickup winder. I was wondering what all I've missed after this other than soldering the leads on and what not. I'm reading about having to "magnetize" the pickups or something to that extent, potting the pickups in wax and various types of wire used to actually wire the things. (Poly, 42 ga, 43 ga, etc. Again, I'm just throwing out terms I've been reading, I don't really know what all of this does.) I was wondering what all I need to get in order to start making them from start to finish. Thanks!
