RIP

Such a monster player. RIP.

Nothing to see here. Just Rick Derringer playing in Cyndi's band. What a band it was!

R.I.P. RIck, helluva player, who for whatever reason was destined to be a band member rather than a front man.

Saw him w/ Johnny Winter way back when. I was very stoned. But I remember him playing a red 335 thru some twins or maybe Ampegs. Couldn't hear him that well unfortunately.

RIP

Not uncommon for shows of that era. I think the bands and sound guys were as stoned as the audience was.

i saw him and met him when he and his band (don't remember which one) played the Youngstown Agora. around 1968/9

That's the most '80s thing I've seen in a long time. DX-7, Steinberger, Simmons drums, etc.
Hopefully you stuck around for the Derringer solo at the end. Wow!

*On a side note, Lauper might be the greatest front-person.

No joke, that band was cooking with gas.

Wish I had appreciated as a young man how unconventionally beautiful Cyndi was. I won't bore you with the details as to why.

Rick was a prodigy. Hang On Sloopy at 18 years old, produced several Johnny and Edgar Winter records starting around age 23, and had a solo career plus side jaunts with folks like Cyndi Lauper, Steely Dan, and Weird Al. I lived and breathed his Derringer Live album for a while as a teenager learning to play guitar.

I finally got to see him live a few years ago. It was kind of a weird gig. A large food festival downtown, and the stage was across a small lake from the festival, so you couldn't see the band very well, but the sound was amazing. He played Frankenstein, Free Ride, and Hoochie Koo among others, and killed on all of them.

RIP.
