So - pedal suggestions.......

#1 - I currently have a Planet Waves Chromatic tuner. There was a defect with the batch I got mine from - when it operated on a power supply it would send a buzz through to the amp when the tuner was engaged, but it did it maybe 10% of the time at the most. Now it does it all the time and quite loudly. It works fine off of a 9V battery, but I often leave my guitar cable hooked into the pedalboard and last time forgot to replug the power supply back into the tuner. Battery is now dead. So I need a new tuner pedal. Preferable not an expensive one. Suggestions?

#2 - My modded Boss DS-1 loves single coil guitars. But it is just not getting along with the PRS humbucker. Even with the drive turned all the way down it is just a bit too harsh and ODish. I can turn the guitar volume down a bit it helps, but I'm really looking for an OD that can just put a little bit of an edge on a clean tone. Most OD pedals don't seem to do that very well - any suggestions? I have a Fulltone OCD for more aggressive drive levels so this needs to be a very low to medium drive level pedal. Again - suggestions? Maybe an RC Booster??

Responses are always easier when price ranges are established. What's your upper limit for each pedal?

Less on the tuner....A used Boss TU-3 can be had cheaply if they are any good.

I'm willing to probably shell out a good $150.00 on the right OD....

a TU-2 can definitely be had cheaply. i'm not so sure about the TU-3. they're still fairly new.

as for dirt pedals, are you looking for more of a ts thing? or something entirely different?

Not a tube screamer per se. Something very transparent. I am a bit intrigued with the 'theory' behind the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive since you can clean it up a bit more, but I have never played one before. I should probably wander down to GC and try one.

Sparkle Drive is a tubescreamer with a mix knob.

I had a Sparkle Drive years ago. I think it may be what you are looking for, but you should try one out. IIRC, it was a very mild OD, and the clean knob is a very cool feature, it keeps the clarity and keeps the sound from getting too muddy.

Barber LTD and the MI Audio Blue boy are two tasty choices in the low to moderate gain ODs. Edit: the Blue Boy is now the Blues Deluxe 3 it seems

The RC is not really a drive but a clean boost pedal. Adjustments include - Gain, Volume, Treble and Bass so you can also EQ your boost. Great for solo boosting as well as fattening up a single and giving it that umph while retaining it's clarity. With humbuckers, it will bump the front end of the amp very nicely.
