Kick Henry Jackassowski
For those who may have missed the thread about it, I found a better job and am telling my current employer adios. My last day is next Tuesday.
Several aspects of the departure process have reinforced my notion that this is a good move. Here are the highlights, for your entertainment:
1. I've been required to take an electrocution prevention safety training course. Nevermind that I'm leaving in less than a week, and that I'm an office drone. I have no earthly idea how I could be electrocuted in this job.
2. A transition team was set up to decide how to inform my clients and transition to a new person. I'll spare you the details, but it's been pretty much a perfect recipe for the wrong way to do this. I have three days left, and there are still clients who have no idea that I'm leaving, and I've been instructed not to tell them.
3. I had an exit interview scheduled for 2
0 today. Problem is, our HR person (the one who wanted to do this) just realized that she has a conflict for that time. This is depite us carefully reviewing our calendars to set up this appointment.
4. I've been asked to return my company car to the corporate office when I come in for the exit interview. Problem is, that's about 50 miles away, and I can't exactly walk home. I basically gave that one a big yeah.......NO. You can have the car back whenever you like, but I'm leaving it here at my home office.
5. We've been informed that the Friday after Thanksgiving, a scheduled holiday, has been rescinded and that all technical staff must work that day, and must bill hours at their alotted rate. This notification came exactly one week before the day in question. Apparently we didn't meet a budget number somewhere. Third year in a row that this has happened.
That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more. I'll keep you updated as the hilarity continues.
