I’ve had this Warmoth star guitar build for a while and it’s gone through a couple different color chages… love the roasted flame maple neck though.
I started building this lightweight roasted swamp ash soloist but I went with a different neck carve for the one with the floyd locking nut, and I just wasn’t feeling it the same way as the one with the regular nut... It just has such KILLER FLAME on it. Only problem, the Floyd routes are different for the fine tuner and non fine tuner versions.
So…. I took a chisel to the side of the route to allow extra space for the width of the non-fine tuner floyd. Painted the cavity black and then shot some Holo-Flake glitter on to touch up the mod.
Since I was outside painting, I went ahead and shot some of the clear with sparkle on the white guitar to seal the comic stickers.
Man, I’m very happy with the switch. The soloist body and this neck just feel right together! The ENGL hard tailer is offset to allow for 3 springs if needed.
Also, you can see that I sanded the roasted swamp ash so it has sunken grain... very tactile and you can see the grain up close (it was easy to see when the body was black). The glitter hides that, but I think it's interesting with all these far-away versus up-close details.
Need to get a few more supplies before I can fire up the soldering iron, drill some control holes, and get both of these playable.
Thoughts?
