Friday - took the kids for lunch with Mrs W at Hyundai's new temporary national HQ. Had over priced mediocre Deli:

Then we went to IKEA to get furniture for the studio. When we went to pick up Jack he decided to ride on the couch:

moar here: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/fo...d-for-threads-that-were-lost-over-the-weekend.

Saturday i worked in the morning and then went to Mrs W's company picnic at Knotts Berry Farm. We had a great day but while we were there a repair I did to the forum completely went awry.

Sunday manually restored 266 tables in the forum database from the most recent backup that I could be sure didn't have problems. Hence 3 days worth of lost posts. :(

friday - wife went to San Francisco for a wedding. we live about 15 minutes from LaGuardia airport. so while leaving 75 minutes before your flight can seem a bit excessive, we do it anyway because you never know what traffic you're going to hit or what the line at security will look like during the morning rush hour. so she left at 6:45am for an 8am flight. i get a call at 7:15. her flight was cancelled, and can i look up what other flights are leaving LGA today so she can leave ASAP. we go through the flights and i hang up. at 7:45 i get a call. that conversation goes something like this:

"i'm in a cab!"
wait, what do you mean you're in a cab?
"i got a flight at JFK at 9:30!"
are you fucking kidding me?
"yeah, i can make it"
dude, you're heading onto the Van Wyck Expressway during rush hour. good luck.

the Van Wyck Expressway is one of only a few highways that runs north/south on Long Island. essentially, it connects LaGuardia and JFK airports. it's two or three lanes in each direction and is usually jammed due to insane drivers and commercial traffic. in other words, she's headed into oblivion.

at 8:15 i get another call:

"i'm through security! and i got to the gate and they changed my seat from an aisle seat to a window seat!"

ho. lee. shit. that's unpossible. i told this story to anybody who would listen and they all gave me the same "you're pulling my leg" look. and it's true. the rest of us would have been sitting on the Van Wyck behind a jack-knifed tractor trailer that was carrying infectious waste and had smashed into the AirTrain monorail pillar, taking down the entire system and unleashing smallpox on an unsuspecting public. meanwhile, she gets there in 15 minutes and is upgraded at the gate.

then i get a call from her later, after the plane landed. she got to SFO an hour earlier than her original flight would have landed. i told her to play the lottery.

so after work, i went home, put the toilet seat up, ate poorly, drank beer, played guitar, and watched baseball.

Saturday - gave all of 2 lessons, came home and did more of that last line above.

Sunday - made coffee, went to GC and tried out the MXR '78 Badass Distortion pedal and a buncha acoustics. made pizza, watched baseball, cleaned up the mess i made from the pizza, and put the toilet seat up. she'll be home in about 45 minutes. :)

one note is that I've completely disabled the thread tags...hopefully that will also speed the forum up as well.

Friday: Came home from work after trying to get a bunch of stuff done since I'll be out of the office for 2 weeks. Ended up working on some recording stuff most of the night.

Saturday: Up early. Mrs. P had to work (from home) until about 3:embarrassed:0, so I spent all morning in the studio. Then I cut the grass and worked on the truck. It was handling kind of weird, so I assumed it was something in the rear end since I just replaced the rear axle a few months ago. Turned out it was a broken sway bar linkage in the front end. I'll have to fix that when I get home. After all that, we watched a movie from Netflix and went to bed.

Sunday: Slept in (until 7:30), watched a little TV, watched another Netflix movie, packed up, and headed toward Beckley to meet the woman I rode to Winston-Salem with. Stopped in Sissonville and had a huge lunch of Mongolian Pork. We were a little ahead of my carpool buddy, so we stopped off at my parents' house and visited for 1/2 hour or so. Then met Susan at Tamarack in Beckley. Then headed toward Winston-Salem. I had met Susan once, but we got to know each other a little better on the 2 1/2 hour drive. She used to work at a radio station in Morgantown, and we like the same kind of music, so the trip was pretty easy. I drove from the NC border to our hotel in Winston-Salem. Once we checked in (to seperate rooms), I have been surfing the web and watching TV. I'll be in training all week, and Mrs. P is meeting me down here on Thursday. After my class lets out on Friday, we're off to the Outer Banks for a few days of camping on the beach.

In other words, I'll be around in the evenings only this week, and I'll be pretty scarce next week.

The only thing worth mentioning is that I've been obsessing over playing the solo to Highway Star, which requires some E string bends that are beating up my pinky, and some arpeggio like stuff that is a bit of a challenge... It's still going to be a while before I feel like I can pull it all off in one take, but I'm determined...

Friday gigged. Had some gig drama. Nancy wants to add more people to the band. We had a guy sit in a couple of times that I knew would be pretty low key, but I see no reason to add anyone. I know this is going to end up pissing me off.

Saturday, worked around the house.

Sunday, worked around the house. Cleaned the garage.

A bigger band would be fun if it were an organ player for your style but it adds a big headache and reduces everyones paycheck. One reason why most of my bands are trios :embarrassed:

She really doesn't know how much work the rest of us put into making a gig go off. Her only requirement is to be there in time to sing. That's it. Meanwhile, I maintain, haul, and set up the PA, the bass player books the gigs, sets up the lights, helps carry PA. I'm not bitching about her but my job shouldn't be harder because she wants to add people.

I know exactly where you're coming from on that one.

Friday night - me and the lady went to Double D Steakhouse for some eats. Saw a couple of guys I knew from other bands I'd opened up for in the past w Ten56. One had done 3 yrs of touring with One Less Reason. They sat down and we chatted for 2 hours AND I LEARNED A TON about how to get things going w my new band, Tyler Warren.

Saturday - headed to Memphis w the lady to see her folks, spent a few hours and left to catch up w Tyler on Beale St at the New Daisy to watch a 5-band show. One Less Reason, and another band featuring my good friend FreZno (who is non-active member here) who I've been friends w since middle school. Tyler and I took about 10 CDs of our latest stuff and greatest off our album we just finished in April and doled 'em out to manager types, booking agents, and other bands from out of the area. Oh... and Zack fucking Meyers, lead guitarist of Shinedown (totally cool, nice, humble guy who gladly took our CD as well - really hoping he gives it a listen).

Sunday - practice with the rest of Tyler Warren for our upcoming SHOW IN NASHVILLE AT THE RUTLEDGE THIS COMING SUNDAY. Best practice we've had to date. Ran straight through our 30 minute set 4 times. Really sounding solid.

Pretty good turnout for that show Saturday night. But the hell kind of rule is a midnight curfew for a rock venue to shut down? Seems pretty dumb. What makes less sense? 5 bands booked to play a venue with that curfew, doors opening at 8 ???

Ugh on the database meltdown.
I hate those.

Friday. Not much at all.
Saturday, got the oil changed and went in to the shop where I take guitar lessons to kill time and choot da chit. Then, pizza and wings for dinner. A little bit of shopping.
Sunday, a little bit more shopping and then picked up daughter from work and went on a 6 hour cruise in the NewYorker - all over the Niagara Penninsula. Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, and east to the Niagara River and back again. We sort of circled around the rain clouds in the process. They moved of to the east by the time we started heading home.

Friday - just hung in and watched Buried

Saturday - spent the day in Manhattan with my wife and my cousin... here are a few pics...

At a street fair...

We were exhausted by the time we got home.

Sunday - mowed the lawn and did other chores...

Friday - not much, lounged around the house. This 4 day work week thing is kick ass.

Saturday - took my oldest to her tennis lesson, then she went to a play date and I spent the day hanging out with my youngest while my wife got her hair done. then we all hooked up in the afternoon and went to play tennis with my brother, a friend of ours and his 2 kids (one of which takes lessons with my daughter) then my brother and I went to watch the Sharks win their 12th game in a row.

Sunday - my brother and I took my kids to the Golden Corral all you can eat breakfast buffet which pretty much wrecked me for the rest of the day. Cleaned up the house and rearranged the living room.

Friday - Worked pretty late, went home and went to bed

Saturday - Worked on NIH grants and other writing for about 14 hours. Surfed the web in between

Sunday - Repeat Saturday all over again, shopped for a new gas grille online

3 day weekend for me. Let's star with the food made and beverages consumed:

Borscht
Sourdough bread from my own starter
Smoked a chicken on the weber
Grilled some tasty thick center cut chops
Grilled some mahi mahi
Breakfast pizza

Guinness foreign export stout
Sly fox phoenix pale ale
Gin and tonic
21st amendment back in black
Gnarley head old vine zin

Drove to a couple music stores on a quest for DR sunbeams or JP acoustic strings. Came home empty handed and ordered strings online.

Replaced a few faucets in the house with some nice new ones. The kitchen faucet is particularly welcome since the old one was too long and you'd get splashed with water every time it was used. Replaced my kitchen undersink filter and as usual, amazed how much junk it collects.

Finish sanded a shadow box I built for my wife.

...played a bunch of guitar.

I did jack shit all weekend actually. It was great. Got in some A-10 simulation time. Hung around here a bit. Messed around with my new money making scheme. Watched a lot of Whale Wars.

Good weekend.

Friday - Worked till 12:30, then went to a company picnic. My boss brought his guitar and I drought the banjo. We cleared out the pavilion. :embarrassed:

Saturday - Drove to Springfield to teach my Driver Alcohol Education class, then back to Ware to see clients at my office. After that I painted the focal wall of the office to match the chairs we bought last week.

Sunday - Recorded two more songs for the new CD and realized I need help with the mix-down. I still have to record four poems with music that Carol is contributing to the disc. She is quite particular as to how she wants it to sound, so it is always a challenge, but will be worth it.
