What's up with the metal guys?

Every once and a while I'll look at the musician section of Craigslist. It seems the at least 90% of the ads are guys looking to form some type of metal band. Several of them say things like we have our own sound guy, lights, etc. I just want to know where these guys are playing. There are a few, and I mean a very few, places that will host metal shows around, but they are tiny holes in the wall. Seems like a lot of time and effort to rock Frankie's basement to 3 people. Weird.

Dunno about your locale but I know several guys who play small bar gigs where there's no sound or lighting so it's all BYO

all the venues around here have great PAs and lights.

we are playing a house party this weekend which is going to super fun.

The desire to play your own music in front of people can be a big motivator. The prestige of the venue and/or the number of patrons could be less important.
I get that, but there really isn't anywhere to play. It just seems crazy that there are 15 people trying to start original metal bands.

My brother is the vocalist in a fairly successful scream band. They play decent sized shows but they are all way out of town. Mostly Chicago. Philly, a handful of dates in Detroit. I think they are doing some sort of festival in New Jersey this summer. I don't think they have ever played a hometown show.

Hollywood has a few clubs that host all genres of bands. The Roxy, The Troubadour, and The Whiskey A Go Go. I'm sure there are others.

that's cool...what's the band? I'll mention them to some friends that live back east.

Luigi and his GF love going to metal festivals. I might see one or two metal shows a year, but that's almost all he goes to. One of my former drum students is touring with the Queensryche guy right now and he's only 21. The people that are really into metal are REALLY into metal.
