Some pics of my new Strat…

I received one of the guitars tonight. A candy apple Fat Strat Texas Special. It's going back tomorrow. Set up with horrible action. So dirty and not even playable. Not worth even setting up to play. I didn't even plug her in

This might be the most asinine thing i've ever read on a guitar forum.

It's got a little grit on it and high action. And you paid for it. And you won't bother to plug it in and see how it sounds.

Wow dude. No wonder you go through so many guitars.

I retract my offer.

it's a GC guitar. i wouldn't want one that's been ridden hard either. if GC can't bother to clean it up before shipping, like any other retailer would, why should they be rewarded with a sale?

Hey, it's a strat. Strats, over all other guitars, tend to have the most prominent variation in tone for a mass produced guitar. That's why people who generally go shopping for a strat, at least those who bother actually shopping for a strat, play 10-20 before they find the one that sounds right, that voodoo quality. You cannot gauge that by not plugging it in and not lowering the action. You cannot gauge that by turning your nose up at it because it hasn't had a recent lemon oil treatment and buffing.

Not cool it was shipped dirty. Not right. Also not right that you pay for a guitar and then not even bother plugging it in because it's not brand new and hasn't had a proper setup by a company notorious for not giving it's instruments a proper setup.

so it's ok to manufacture a sub par instrument, or let a decent instrument become sub par while on display, but it's not ok for a consumer to reject it. got it.

As my post said, the guitar that came in wasn't the guitar shown in the original post.

Howie was right... why should I accept a guitar that is in poor shape. I get 10 - 15 min to play each day... why waste time working on something I know I am ultimately going to return?

FYI... I would have never even thought about accepting your offer for $650 for the guitar I posted in the original post... it's low ball and you know it.

Finally, you don't know me... so try not to judge. My post may have been asinine, but it's my business to do what I want with the guitars I buy.

Look, I get it -- his turnover rate for guitars seems high, most of us agree on that. So what? He's not spending your money, let him do it, and let him do it the way he wants to. Clearly, half the fun for him is the chase, the deal. I get that, too. Clearly, he's not into having to set up and wrench on them if he doesn't have/want/need to.

I think it's fun that he lets us in on his guitar-buying exploits. We all like guitars, why not see what he's up to?

Yeah, my bad on the judgement post, I didn't pay for a guitar that came not as advertized, sorry. I know you're a good guy, I shouldn't have made those comments.

To continue my public apology...

Mystix-

Firstly, 650 was a lowball offer, you got my number on that one.

I'm not opposed to you going through guitars. In fact, i'm envious, and a wee bit jealous. I totally wish I could own as many as you've owned, and I understand the hunt, and the hunt is fun! I think we're all a little envious that you have the ability to own such great guitars looking for keepers, that is truly awesome.

I feel bad for saying what you stated was asinine, not cool on my part, so i'm genuinely sorry for that, I feel like a jackass.

I think the reason I got bent out of shape was that i'm a strat guy. I love strats. I've gone through alot of them. I have alot of experience with them. And what i've found about strats, is that *you never know until you give it a go*. Strats are funny. Simple, easily manufactured, and everywhere. However, in my experience, certain strats have souls, and for me, it's purely a strat thing, not a tele, or LP, or SG, just strats. One wouldn't be able to gauge this without at least plugging it in and seeing if it has one. You could have a custom shop 5K strat that sounds terrible. You could have a $100 one that sounds incredible. Few speak to you, most don't, however, it's my opinion that every strat has the embedded potential to be one of these "voodoo" strats, and ought to be given the chance. But I can understand your reasoning, why pay for a guitar that shows up in poor condition with a bad setup? That's completely valid. I'm just a bit crazy in the head when it comes to strats.
