I had a Fender Bassman 135 running through a home built 2x12" as my 1st gigging amp. Used to stay clean all the way up and was a great pedal platform.

Rather than rent, have a look at Cash Convertors. Pawn shop basically and got quite a few stores in London. You and your mate could buy a couple of acoustics and then sell them back when you're done.

Did you ever try any 3rd party IRs when you got it? I thought with the fiddling I'd done with the stock ones it sounded pretty good but putting these free IRs in has made a massive improvement. I've set it up to have clean, crunch and dirt sounds. The clean and dirt sounds I'm pretty happy...
