Dig it! Tele mod complete

For my 2005 American Standard Tele, I’ve had an eye out for a vintage-style bridge for a while. The Standard 6-saddle bridges have 3 screws instead of 4, and are longer, so you can't just drop in a normal vintage-style. Which I found out to my dismay a while back. Finally scored one that fits from Glendale.

For some reason I decided to try doing the install myself instead of toting everything over to the Guitar Guy. Surprisingly, it went pretty well. The only hitch was when all the screws came out of the bridge plate, it still was clinging firmly to the guitar. Turned out there was a strip of silicone glue along the bottom edge...hmm. I didn't have to pry very hard to get it off though.

Setup also went pretty well. I probably will tweak the string height next weekend, but it's pretty close. Intonation is better than it was - with the old saddles, the 6th string could never quite get there, even backed up to the maximum. Now there is still some wiggle room and intonation is spot on.

An unexpected side benefit - with the original saddles, the 1st string sometimes would seem a fraction dead compared to the others. That problem has been nuked. Also, I love the way it all feels smoother under my palm when playing now. I will need to live with it for a while to judge any sound difference, but the session I had today was nice and easy on the ears.

And I really like the way it looks!
