1985 Spa 1000 ride along with Jochen Mass 962

Good stuff. Sounds absolutely terrifying in a very '80s sort of way, like if you recorded a giant monster pooping heaps of twisted scrap metal and ran the track through a Pro Co Rat.

That is my favorite race track. I would love to see a race there in person one day sitting right around the Eau Rouge/ Radillon corner complex.

I find it both strange and wonderful that they've kept that part of the track almost the way it has always been.

It's very old-school, tricky and dangerous with the zig-zagging and elevation changes and whatnot. They say when you go uphill after Eau Rouge, you're looking straight into the sky and there's just no way to see the apex you're aiming for. Countless drivers have lost the rear while turning into Radillon, and then it's no tender shunt.

But I guess it's a sort of signature of Spa, and it wouldn't be the same if they modernized the section too much.

there is a really tricky turn on the Mid-Ohio race course here.
it's an uphill turn, off camber, over the top and turn back going down, on camber. it's wild to be behind the fence watching those cars negotiating that.

Turn 1 at COTA is a blind uphill turn with the apex at the top of the hill.

I did virtually drive Spa in VR in Assetto Corsa, and going through Eau Rouge/ Radillion is quite a rush.

There have been some bad wrecks there the last few years, with a driver in Formula 2 losing his life. He lost it on the exit of Radillion and then his car careened back onto the track where he was T-boned. There have been calls to make changes there for safety.
