Gary Blanchard
beloved, local musician
Last week I got a call from a local nursing home asking for me to come again to play for the residents. I did two gigs there the end of 2024 and it was fun for all involved. I was surprised they didn't call over the Christmas holiday. So I was glad to get the call and agreed to play on the 12th. As usual, I had a great time and included some songs that were requested at earlier gigs there. Even better, I played for over an hour and didn't get hand cramps. I even got a tip on top of my fee.
Friday night I went to the open mic and played a couple of my originals. I often feel like I need to do covers and upbeat music there; this time I played what I felt like playing and it went over well.
Sunday morning Carol was leading the service at her church and she put together a talk that was interspersed with some of my songs. It was nice to do a program with her.
I think my path ahead will involve shorter gigs; no more than an hour. I will also pay more attention to what I want to play rather than what I think people want from me.
