Cost of owning a MCLAREN F1

There is a McLaren dealer on the corner of Arastradero and El Camino Real in Palo Alto I used to go past every day when I worked at Stanford University. I used to always slow down when I passed the dealership - even the used cars on their lot were pretty amazing!

By the video it seems he had no clue about all the down time and being transported here and that for repairs etc. Not like you can put if off and just sell it. Well, I guess you could if you found another dude like him. I mean their parts time out which he said averages to a yearly cost of $50,000 and that's if nothing breaks. 2000 to 3000 miles you need a new clutch or drive 10 miles and still, in 3 years you are required to replace the clutch. How many months a years is it simply not available to drive? Even if you have a zoo of white elephants at least you can go to the zoo and see you elephants every day.

Love when he talks about the modem for the factory to connect to the car..... he leaves out the part about it being an ANALOG modem.... yes... the one that makes all the AOL "you've got mail" noises.

keep working hard kids. its not that you'll ever be able to afford something like this but your CEO needs to buy another one.

And it probably never crossed his mind to just spend the money on a homeless shelter instead.

That's the late 90s for you...plus they made a special ultra lightweight CD changer just for the F1 that was a whopping 6 ounces lighter than stock.

That said.... I'm intently watching all of the videos that Gordon Murray has been posting about his upcoming T.50

It might as well be carved from a solid block of unobtanium with a nevergonnadriveone fusion reactor for power.... but I love the purposefulness of his decisions and that it's more about driver experience than raw performance.

Watching 3 guys carry a fully assembled monocoque to the build stand just makes me shake my head in amazement.
