Daily versus thread pt 2: J bass vs P bass

Definitely P bass. The J looks really cool, but the P sounds like how I think a bass should. P is 'thumpy', J is 'burpy'.

i have one of each....sort of.
my P bass has an extra pickup, a rear Jazz pickup. yes, it came that way. PJ bass

and my Jazz is a fretless.

i like both, but generally will go with the PJ.

argh, too hard. I like both thumpy and burpy. I currently only have a P, but need to get a J again

i've even given thought to another PJ, and swapping the fretless neck onto it. i like the Jass sound, but i'm not really a fan of the offset body.
i really like how the P body fits and feels.
but at the moment, i'm not really using the fretless very much, so i'm kinda not inclined to drop $400-ish to get another PJ just for the body, etc.

Between the two choices, I'll take the P bass. I agree with Mark that the PJ is probably the most useful format.

Cant go wrong with a P if its your only bass. P will always get the job done.
I like Js for the versatility tho. A P/J is a good compromise because you can get the P sound and blend in a little bite to taste with the rear J.

Says a guy who plays a short scale Guild Starfire with one Bi-sonic pickup, lol.

Nothing looks cooler than a sunburst J. But 90% of my favorite songs have a P on them. Impossible to choose.
