It's Storm Time In Tornado Alley!

Dave's snowstorm is headed my way. We're being warned about baseball sized hail, tornados and maybe ice by morning! :embarrassed:

It's 82 degrees now. 34 by morning.

Mojo. Hope it isn't as bad as they news is predicting.

It's never that bad unless it hits YOUR house.
Neighborhood down the road wiped out? Meh. It wasn't that bad a storm.
Your neighborhood blown away? Storm of the friggin century!

Baseball sized hail in a tornado...... that's got "Fuck you puny human" written all over it.

Fortunately, the hail and tornados come out of different parts of the storm.
First you get pummeled with hail, then the tornado comes to break anything the hail didn't get.

We're having a rollout to a new system tomorrow at work and they're not going to cancel it - they think if, given enough time, everyone can get here. We'll see how THAT goes.

stay safe down there. were in a mixed forecast here also. Thunderstorm watch, and winter weather advisory ... I love Kansas weather.

Ah, the weather guys here panic over the first sign of a cloud.
I guess predicting that stuff is dicey, so better safe than sorry. But the warning do get old after a while and you do have to caution yourself to not get callous to them. Cause when it hits, it hits.

I've got to say that I'm curious: Forecasting hail, perhaps -- but HTF to you know what size it's gonna be? To me, that sounds like showmanship!

They're pretty good at it. Different patterns tend to produce different things and they can spot which is which.
Hail size often corresponds to storm intensity. Big storms=big hail. And by big, I mean powerful, not widespread. The updrafts that keep the hail blown back up into the cloud are much stronger with big storms. The more times the hailstone goes back up, the more layers of ice build up. Imagine how strong those winds must be to lift a 3" ball of ice thousands of feet up.

Part of it has to do with which air masses are coming together. There are three masses here, which is rare enough that there's only two places on earth that have that and the reason the atmosphere is so unsettled here.
If two of those masses are bumping, it makes weather. If all three are here, look out.
Warm, dry air from the southwest mixed with cold dry air from the northwest and warm wet air from the Gulf of Mexico make a nasty brew.
Anyway, the weather gang can frequently narrow the area pretty close and also how intense. Not much warning for that much accuracy, though. Maybe an hour at most.

It ended up being not as bad as advertised here except for the cold. It's about 14 out right now - and still snowing lightly. We got about 7" total thus far...

We're going to get some messy weather up here over the next week.

Rain right now.
Snow, hail, freezing rain called for tomorrow and the next day.

The north shore of Lake Erie is supposed see a LOT of rain. 50 to 100 mm.

Wild.

The worst of it MIGHT go around Niagara. *hopes*

82-34. I'm stunned. Is that even possible? That is some crazy shit.

This forum is making me want to GTFO of California already. I've had it with dry winters and dry summers. I want the crazy rain and snow everyone posts about.

OK-LAHOMA!

You folks have some crazy wind there, I can attest to that. Never experienced wind like that in my life.
