You guys know what I'm up to these days. What are you playing/practicing/gigging lately?
 
Man, I have hardly touched a guitar since I got back from vacation.

I'll practice fingerpicking my acoustic tonight. You guilted me into it. :cry:
 
I've been working on the Nick Lowe version of "What's so funny" that Gary posted (I've been playing the Elvis Costello version for about 30 years, so it's tough to change!) on the guitar and I've been working on a variety of classic rock numbers on the ukulele.
 
I'm brushing the cobwebs off the 90s rock set list with my last band. After a 1.5 year hiatus we decided to have a farewell show before I move out of state.

90% of the material came back instantly. Others, like Monkey Wrench, require some revisiting.

On guitar mostly tunes for solo guitar performances and increasing the repertoire. Need to also start working on a song for my nieces wedding at the end of September. As for technique, nothing of note other than arpeggios from hell. It is just a part of the daily routine that is done in through the circle of 5ths and then 4ths. Allows me to cover all 5 patterns. May start to incorporate the same concept but in box form again as I am beginning to forget.

On Mando it is just soloing and chord changes. Bottom line is familiarity with the instrument.
 
Mainly just working on some originals but basically that will mean drums, guitars, bass and keys since my schedule doesn't match up with anyone else that could help.
Also have about 30 songs on a playlist that I practice guitar to and about 20 songs on another that I practice my upright bass to.
 
Electric Wizard, QotSA, and some Black Sabbath if I feel like playing in a higher tuning like C#.
 
Been learning Kamelot - Veil of Elysium

I watched this guy playing it drop-d to learn it, knowing that Thomas Youngblood sometimes plays in drop-d...only to watch live kamelot videos and see that Youngblood is playing it in D-standard. So now I'm relearning it. Not that is anything wrong with playing it in drop-d...
 
Nothing much. Am preparing to record vocals so I am practicing, mostly in the car on my daily commute.

I have no other passengers :lol:
 
I'm always trying to coming up with original riffs and melodies. But other than that, I've been trying to noodle around on the fretboard trying to put together some jazzy blues stuff. And even though I don't listen to much country or even rockabilly, I really want to get much better at chick'n pick'n. Shredding rock music in minor scales is like walking in the park for me. But when it comes to trying to play chick'n pick'n I feel like a total nube. And unlike the plethora of rock licks and information out there, one has to dig deeper to find chick'n pick'n.
I've been watching Danny Gatton, Greg Kock and Johnny Hiland videos.
 
EQing a strat to sound like a real guitar. Billy Gibbons can EQ anything into Pearly Gates, so it's got to be possible.
 
My band finally got to rehearse last night after a month of being unable to do so and it felt SO GOOD!
 
Mid-week stylistic shift. Got asked to play in a private jam at a buddies studio tomorrow night up in LA and I'm back on the solid-body McFeely sharpening my blues and fusion chops.

I've been into riffs like this for the last month, except turn up the overdrive a good bit with some slide.

 
I'm mostly just coming up with my own riffs and song parts. I also have been playing some REM and Pink Floyd.
 
Geez, I'm almost embarrassed to say. I heard "Another Day" and for some reason, realized I'd never done it. Sounded like something fun to strum and sing to.
