Phenomenal show, it's crazy how tight they are now at this point in the tour. Everyone's on fire and Geddy's voice sounds better than it did on the 2015 tour.
The Boy and I just saw Bailey Spinn, Wargasm, and Scene Queen. All three fucking killed. I bought meet and greet passes for Wargasm. I was expecting to just get some merch and a photo op but we got to hang out with them on the bus for half an hour before doors. The Boy kept dropping dad jokes which was kind of embarrassing but he’s 14 so whatever. I’m pretty sure he was the only person at the show under 21. It was his first small club metal show and I think his mind was pretty much blown. And he learned about moshing when I gave him a push into the pit.

Got a ticket for 10/27 in DC, but want to go to 10/25 here as well.
Started watching the Peart doc on uToob and it's clear Alex and Geddy were in a great place to perform again. I've avoided any clips from this tour, just waiting to see it for myself. Glad to hear the consistent praises for how they're sounding.

They're super tight right now. I saw them in Fort Worth in June and they'd only played a handful of shows at that point. They sounded great then, but Monday night was noticeably better and that seems to be the consensus as the tour rolls on. Geddy is hitting every note and the playing is ferocious. More than that though, they're all clearly having a blast.
I just got tickets for this.
Admittedly, I’m in it for 2 or 3 acts and then open to hearing stuff from the unknown-to-me bands.
Tim is a bro-country kind of style, but without obnoxious lyrics. I guess. I don’t know.
His kids went to the same school as my grand kids. He’d pick his kids up after school like a normal dad. Just a decent person from all accounts.
He has stuff that gets radio play. View attachment 118071
I saw The Guess Who with John Kay and Steppenwolf live at The Wiltern in 1986. Burton was the only original member of The Guess Who for that tour. It was a fun show. Both bands were great. The audience was a step back into the 60's. I had never seen real hippies before. Bell bottoms, flowers. There was a Manson cult vibe too. It was a tad scary.
Rush is in town tonight (St Louis). I bought tickets to Chicago and Tampa a year ago. They added St Louis recently. Not gonna make it three times.
A few notes from the Chicago show.
There are actually women that go to Rush concerts. There was a long line outside the womens restroom at the break. I thought better than to take a picture for proof.
They played the entire Moving Pictures album in our specific show. There is some killer drumming in Camera Eye.
I disliked the early and pre-tour chacterization that a bunch of rush heads will wait for the drummer to fail. I only felt anticipation and cheers when she nailed the prime rolls and fills. I felt everyone was on her side.
Rush, last night in DC. Was hoping to hit both shows, but have ZERO issues with seeing the one.
The only thing that came up was Geddy not quite hitting some of those highest notes, but never to the detriment of the music. It's only noticeable because how complete the songs/compositions of the band are, we expect to hear all the parts.
To that, that these guys can still play this music pretty much perfectly at 73 is just amazing and a gift to all of us fans. I'm not saying they will, but there's no reason to believe they couldn't do another tour after this one wraps up in a couple of years...barring any ailments that affect their ability to play.
Lots of cool guitars and basses played throughout the night.
Alex spent a lot of time on a transparent oxblood Les Paul with a Floyd, but he also had a few other
Les Pauls (with and w/o Floyds),
the doubleneck,
a coupla 355s,
a PRS,
a SG Jr,
a Tele, and
even an Explorer(!?!?!??).
There were no Strats, Signatures, or Godin Hentors
Geddy was rocking
several Jazz Basses,
myriad unique Rickenbackers,
an offset teardrop, and
the Moog (w/ bass pedals),
and I think a couple of others.
There were no Steinbergers or Wals though.
While interestingly downplayed, there's no denying that Anika absolutely killed it. She hit all of the parts. I'm not sure I've ever been to a show where the drums were featured so prominently in the mix, even when I lost saw Rush in 1990. They kept the drumming focus on Neil, but she was phenomenal. I think a blind listening by all but the most critical fans would leave one hard pressed to notice too much difference, especially in the context of the tunes. They had a couple of short photo montage clips with interview audio from Neil, which reminded me of how Queen w/ Lambert had the night be a celebration of the music created with a beloved friend and bandmate.
Which had me thinking of the Canyon Band, made of musicians that had to fill the biggest holes in legendary bands. Here's my first swipe:
lead vocal - Adam Lambert
drums - Anika Nilles
guitar - Warren Haynes
guitar - John Mayer
bass - Pino Palladino
I'm not saying that the piece fit, just the idea of being good enough to fill those voids. I felt like guitar was double dipping as Haynes filled the Duane Allman and Jerry Garcia voids. Thought about Vai, but he didn't replace Eddie in VH and Whitesnake was more of a hired gun role. Bass was a hard one, because bass is generally not as well regarded as vocals, guitar, and drums. And often the replacements are serviceable to great, but not necessarily on the level of replaced, e.g. Billy Sherwood for Chris Squire. There are a lot of potential configurations of such a band.
Anyway, Rush was awesome, which was expected.
The second set opens w/ Tom Sawyer, then thy play Red Barchetta, and YYZ...as well as the rest of Moving Pictures front to back. I kept my head in the sand about the set knowing they'd worked up 40+ songs and had constructed 4 different (but not wholly unique) sets. I didn't want to know or think about what I might miss or have missed.
If you're a fan and haven't seen them, I gotta join in praise of the band's performances and recommend that your get yer butt to a show if you're able.
I think you said in an earlier post you'd been deliberately avoiding clips or talk about the shows, but they've been rotating among four sets with some slight variation among those. At the Denver show they played 2112 front to back.

That's super cool. Glad for what I got. I dig 2112, but prefer side 2 with the only song I really love from it being Passage to Bangkok. Wish they'd played some Counterparts at my show, it's my favorite Rush album.
Yeah, it was interesting to hear 2112 in its entirety but I would have been happy to swap out a few songs. I've seen them plenty, but until a few weeks ago I'm not sure if I'd ever heard them play it all the way through.
I used to like Time Stand Still more than I do now. And I know a lot of people like it, but I just don't care about The Garden.
Very cool that you got Moving Pictures. I still haven't heard Witch Hunt live, but they did play Vital Signs when I saw them in Fort Worth.
And they threw in Passage to Bangkok too!
