I voted for "wing it", but most of my students are experienced, work hard, and are capable of self-directing their learning; I'm there to streamline, simplify, correct, clarify, etc.

I absolutely do use books for students who are directionless.

It really depends on the students. Stone cold beginners need a method book. Advanced students should be regularly evaluated and lesson plans made with a concept of progression and goal. I do work intermediate students through books like the Ross Bolton Funk Guitar book for a few months to work on 16th note subdivisions and basic mechanics though.

Since there's like 3 of us, I'll forgo the poll failure portion of my post.

I do both. It really depends on the student and what they want to achieve.

Yes, absolutely; I neglected to mention that most of students are relatively advanced.

Though there are exceptions, mostly friends and/or their children.

Both listed above when I taught. It really depends on the student and there goals. For beginners, I do have my own outline and method. Just never published my own method like Mark has.

since I got a few teachers handy here right now...and I think y'all have heard a fair bit of my stuff....

what would you recommend for me to learn?
