All modelers sound the same now.

I dont get it.
Isn't the point of modelers to give you a bunch of realistic simulations of different amps and settings in one box?
If they all sound the same why bother?

As for myself, I'm very excited for the next FM9 firmware update. It should have fixes or additions for everything I currently want.

Still debating get the foot controller for the 3 or just getting the 9. I like the idea of portability of the 3 and I could probably get by with just the 3 switches, but having the extra switches would be nice.

But yeah, I can get the fractal to sound just like the Tonex and I’m sure they are all in the same ballpark.

The latest firmware update for my Headrush was a game-changer fir that unit as well...they added some models and refined the existing models... the things sounds really good, and for me is still the easiest to program...

3.7 was another great update for helix. That jcm800 is killer. The progression from release date to present is massive.

The point being that when they model a specific amp the big ones are all pretty equal. There is quite a bit of BS on the internet (and with the kids at my conservatory) about how some devices are superior to others for various reasons. We've entered that golden age where anyone with an understanding of how these things work can make just about any of them sound good to their preferences.

Yeah. 3.7 is when I feel liked the Helix stepped up quite a bit. I'm updating all of our Helix floor units at the school over the break.

At this point it's literally what works best for you. I need the extra processing as well as the buttons so the FM9 is where I'm at. If you don't need the power, you're getting the same sounds on the FM3.

I play in my basement and occasionally half ass jam with some neighbors, so I don’t ‘need’ anything

I’m nowhere near the processing cap, but I think the 2 amp blocks would be cool, but obviously I don’t need that. I rarely gigged with 2 amps when I was actually gigging.

It's not that all the models sound the same. It's that any of the units will allow you to get usable/believable recreations of the amp(s) you want. There is no one best unit. It's kind of more about what kind of workflow you like at this point.

I think there are differences in hardware in these units. By that, I mean how robust the circuit boards are, the quality of jacks, pots and switches and how they connect to the boards, etc. In other words, how likely are those things to fail if you drop it? Those things, of course, may or not matter that much to you.

I have to say that this is very important to me. The fractal seems (in my experience) to be very robust. The Helix Floor units at the school not so much but my HX Stomp has also been bulletproof.

I bought some patches for my Helix that were 3rd party created and tweaked to match great examples of specific models. The Fender DR was tweaked to match an Allesandro customized DRRI. I use that patch instead of the stock one. I have a few that were tweaked to match some Sampson era Matchless amps. Those are the ones I use the most at church.

At least the big three.

On the 800 video, listening on JBL earbuds, the beginning samples were extremely similar. At the end where he turned down the volume to clean it up only the British one sounded good to my ears. The rest all shrilled badly, it was painful to my ears. Only on the reduced guitar volume samples were there what surprised me as big amount of change.

I might send you the patch I’m building for the conservatory today once it’s done. Not very churchy but I’m curious what you’ll think.
