Dig it! Another pawn shop Les Paul. This one is not as insane as the sub-$500 Les Paul Classic I got last year, that one will never be topped, but still good!

Soo I saw that the pawn shop had a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Studio in Ebony (black finish, rosewood board). It was in decent condition - some wear around the input jack and in need of a good cleaning, but otherwise good! It was a full fledged Studio, not one of the Vintage Mahogany or Faded versions. It came with a clean Gibson USA case that I think is non-original but nicer than the one it would have come with (pink interior with the little shroud thingy).

It was tagged at $850 and it had just come out to the floor earlier that day. With it being so new they weren't going to move much but I got it for $830, tax included. It's a half pound lighter than the LP Classic I got there last year. I'm only going to keep one of the two and I'm leaning towards the Studio after spending time with both last night. I like the way the Classic looks more (binding), but the Studio feels better. To my surprise I actually like the 490R/498T pickups that are in the Studio. They get shit on online but to me they sound as good as the Burstbucker 1/2 set I put into the Classic.

Anyways that's all... here's a quick picture...

Nice!

Studios are good guitars.
I had someone comment that the pickups might be a bit dark on my Studio, but honestly, it was probably old strings.

The pickups are def darker than the ones in the Classic, but I think I like that darkness. I am a neck pickup guy most of the time and I can't stand anything approaching a shrill tone...

FLASH UPDATE: I decided to keep the Classic even though it was heavier, but it was a close decision. So I listed this bad boy on CL last night for $1,100. This morning I met a guy who bought it for that full asking price - he seemed real nice, he said he had one exactly like it when he was younger but sold it when he became a dad, but now he has more time and he wants to get back into it, and he saw it and was like ohhhhh. He seemed quite happy to have found it and of course I was happy to see it go somewhere it seems like it'll really get played!
