i got an invite today and decided to try the premium service so i could download to my phone. i dig the selection and the fact that i may never have to buy an album ever again. but the phone interface leaves a little to be desired.

what's your experience been, dexter?

Spotify's been quite cool, although I've mainly used the pc version.
I've found it very useful for checking out stuff I'd later buy, as I'm one of those who prefer actually having the songs either on cds or locally on the pc.
Also very useful for us cover band musicians, for finding songs I need to learn and such.

However, more and more artists have withdrawn from being on Spotify lately as they make very little money out of it - so you won't find quite a few of the bigger names on it.

Still plenty of cool music to be found there though :thu:

I dig it. It helps me listen to new music then save money when i find out that 90% of what's being released todat is shite :embarrassed:

i'm bumping this because you people seriously need to check it out. i'm on the Premium service, which is $10 a month and allows me to download songs to listen to offline and on my phone. the only limit is your memory capacity, unlike other services which limit you to a fixed number of songs. i have 4 invites to the free service if anybody is interested.

currently listening to Ted Greene's "Solo Guitar" album.

I'll have to check it out. I've been using Pandora on my iPhone for the last few weeks...

I'm interested in checking it out. Do you still have some spare invites?

I've got it on the PC..really enjoying rediscovering some old albums I only have on vinyl (with no working record player)..will probably get the phone version next week. Overall, pretty cool.

what's the non-premium service?

In the UK at least, their are three versions, "Free" which gives you ads and 20 hours of streaming. Then for £5 you get unlimited streaming and no ads, and for £10, you get better sound quality and all your music available on your phone/devices offline too.

ah, okay.
thanks.

so really, there's not a lot of point to the free one, since I could do that with youtube and whatnot anyways.

Not Spotify, but Rdio. Same idea but I've had it for a few months so Spotify hasn't given me a reason to switch yet.

I have to advise you get the premium account. Fucking gold.

Especially for the gigging musician. :)

I don't know the pricing, but probably about a tenner a month. Worth it, definitely! :)

ok. I just signed up for the premier account and I'm loading up songs for my gigs right now. I would have spent about $60 this morning otherwise.
