Wait a year, and the GC mothership will be selling it at half price.
The Excel series is usually MIK with good pickups. Regular pricing is too high IMO (as is with most D'As), but at the discounts, they are worth it. I tried an Excel version of the EXL-1 jazzbox, and even with the thin neck, it was a killer guitar. The store had it on clearance for $999 (with hsc), about half off from the original retail price. Almost walked out with it.
