F*CKF*CKF*CKF*CK... Tom Petty in critical conditon after cardiac arrest

Funny how the ones busting my balls are the ones that have never posted original music on the forum...

If you are referring to me, I've posted plenty of original music, maybe you are too new to have seen it. For years, I had it in my sig.

And my ball busting wasn't aimed at you, it was a Spinal Tap reference. Those are always acceptable :embarrassed:

Gotcha....
Oddly enough, I've never seen Spinal Tap...
I know, I know. I'm a slacker. Lol

Ok seriously, you haven't seen Spinal Tap? And you call yourself a musician? Shame on you.

Here is where my comment is from. At this show, Spinal Tap changes direction from a metal band to jazz. The introduce themselves as Spinal Tap Mach 2, a jazz odyssey.

If you have some time to kill, here you go.

Unlike most, I've been avoiding listening to any Tom Petty I just can't right now. I did watch dmn23's YT video of Tom's last two songs and I realized I'm going to have to wait a bit longer.

After the death of Prince I remember hearing criticism from folks who thought it ridiculous that anyone would mourn the death of a celebrity you didn't even know personally, and I get it, but every now and then one will pass away that hits you so hard you really felt like you did know them a lot more than just someone you saw on TV or at concert. I feel this way about Tom. Looking at some of your set lists here made me realize just how many of his songs I've actually learned and played, I'd never thought about it.

I've covered so many of his songs like many here, in fact the very last song I played with a band was Mary Jane's Last Dance, about 3 months ago. I was so proud of myself in that I pulled the solos off perfectly :embarrassed:.

I was hanging out with college friends (USC South Carolina) in 1979, drinking Jack Daniels green label that had been found in a buddy's dad's attic, then gin. I was so sick the next day, and got over it, but Damn the Torpedoes played in my mind for weeks.

All due respect to Tom and his accomplishments but i am absolutely dreading the upcoming onslaught of every loser in a band now playing way too many Petty songs in their set and the formation of about a hundred tribute bands by unoriginal, uninspired sheeple following the flock.

Fuck off

Seriously....

We had three Petty songs in our set lists on and off (Mary Jane, American Girl, Running Down A Dream). Were we still gigging I'd probably push for a 6 month moratorium on playing any of them.

Whoa, one of my former bandmates in Crash Pad just posted a photo on facebook of himself as a kid, just after getting his first guitar.

Tom Petty is sitting on the couch next to him. Not sure (picture is a little fuzzy around the edges) but the guitar looks like one of those "Traveling Wilbury" models.

I'd post the pic itself, but since it was posted only to his fb "friends," rather than "public," don't want to invade his (semi-)privacy. Here's what I believe the guitar probably was (from a listing for $1100 on Reverb!):

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see that photo. See if he'd mind if you copied and posted it here.

$1,100? They had one at Atomic Guitars the last few times we went on our Barnstrom/Heelstock field trips. I tried to get smurfco to buy it. I think it was around $200.

Tom Petty wasn’t dead then. The same thing happened with the old Prince guitars.

It amazes me that some of these cheap guitars suddenly become "valuable." Those old Silvertone Guitars with the amp in the case that sold for $70 are vastly overpriced. Those Wilbury guitars probably started going up in price when George Harrison died.
