Hot or Not? Fender Reclaimed Eastern Pine Telecaster, rosewood neck

I think that since they are (by definition) very limited (they are using wood from some very specific sources) they are probably figuring that scarcity drives the price? Anyway, with the increasing unavailability of new, suitable tonewoods, I am totally in support of re-purposing old, existing wood stocks.

As far as the price goes, yes its pretty steep but no more than they charge for a 52 Reissue these days.
Its just another finish option, so I dont see it should cost any more to make than a 52.
Sure you can get a similar one cheaper from an individual builder, and it very likely could be a better guitar.
Knowing what I know myself I'd prob order a Kern, or from some other builder on TDPRI.
But it would'nt say Fender on it. They can and do charge for that.

Nice idea but I'm not a fan of the ultra shitty wood. I love my pine telecaster, but I'm not a fan of the visible knots.

In all fairness Mark, it's almost impossible to find Pine with out knots in it period. It's about the knottiest wood (phrasing) there is.

edit: 1900 bucks is a very fair price imo considering the rosewood neck.

Apparently only 83 Tele's were made.

What I really like is the rosewood neck and the knotted up pine. The pickups and 4-way switch top it off. The Strat even has a compound radius fretboard.

I guess you're right. Its just not my thing...and my cheapie pine guitar only has one place that looks like they covered or filled a knot with grain filler of some sort so that looked pretty excessive to me.

You can get sugar pine thats fairly knot free, but then it looks more like normal ash or alder so whats the fun in that?
I mostly love the SOUND of the pine bodies I've played. I'm not too big on knots either but I would put up with a minimal amount as long as they arnt too prominent. To me the dark finish mitigates the knots to some degree. Big ol dark knots really stand out on a lighter finish.

Remember how Ed Roman said people should learn to build guitars by making bodies out of cheap 2x4s? This looks like a custom Craigslist disaster.

I dig it. A lot. And I usually don't like rosewood fretboards on teles. I'd buy it if I had the cash, without a second thought.

I have a friend who makes furniture out of reclaimed lumber and some of the stuff he makes is amazing. I like the concept but man, this guitar kind of looks liek some of my old shop projects. I'm not a fan of the cracks and knots.

The neck looks like the neck on my Warmoth Cabro.

Agreed on both counts.
