First time trying out Musikraft Custom Neck

A year and a half ago I had my pink Charvel DK24 swirl dipped a) to try something new and b) make it more unique if I decided to flip it. It came out amazing and I started playing the Charvel more.

Only problem that arose was I hated how thin and tiny the neck was, so it became a beautiful piece of wall art.

I decided to order a neck from Musikraft because they’re one of the few companies where you can get other kinds of OEM necks besides Fender. I ordered the 24 Fret Charvel replacement with the heel sprocket for truss adjustment, went with a fat C (87mm - 97mm), 10” radius, stainless frets, blue moon glow side dots, and switched up the woods to mahogany with a rosewood board.

Looks great and I can’t wait for the weekend to get it drilled and fitted (the Charvel uses 4 separate screws in grommets, not a typical Fender rectangle.)

That’s why I stick to Warmoth. I’d totally screw up drilling the neck.

In this situation, I would have ordered a non-drilled neck from Warmoth as well... if they offered 24 fret, longer necks (not just the 24 fret extension hanging out).

In normal circumstances I would order a pre-drilled neck... but either way, my latest mod I've been doing to necks is drilling the holes for stainless inserts and machine screws.

Unless I'm mixing and matching from a handful of companies, like Fender USA and Warmoth, I prefer to drill the neck myself. I don't trust two separate companies to be dead on. It's the whole reason I have a drill press (which resides a mere 20 minutes away from you).

But Warmoth doesn't make Charvel necks (2-1/4" heel) anyway (maybe off-menu?).

I have a drill press... and a large Jet belt sander and Jet bandsaw.

The Musikraft neck can get pricey if you go crazy on the options, but I bought it figuring I could recoup a big chunk of that money back by selling the Charvel neck.

I was replying to Chad.

My Tele neck is one of their Blackguard series. Love it. I'm hoping they'll go back to some per-pandemic off-menu options and let me order this neck with a "CBS" headstock to replace the neck on 1979 Strat.

That's a great looking piece.
I've priced out one of their necks a few times for projects but I've always gone Warmoth or USACG, in one instance.

"Screw holes are marked but not drilled yet."

Wasn't expecting a pickguard. Especially when somebody paints the pickups. Pickguard clear?

Sometimes I'm dumb. Other times, I'm really dumb. Or, just horrible eyesight. One problem is the slot for the switch blended in with all the swirls. Guess that's 2 future holes that aren't future holes. Other one I "saw", about two inches above the top switch hole, I small patch of blue with a tiny black spot in it.

The stock guitar had a 5 way switch, volume, and tone.... when I test-setup this guitar, i just wired the bridge humbucker to the volume. I'll wire some kind of switching back in once the new neck is on.

Got the neck holes drilled and the neck mounted last night. Perfect fit.

Now it’s a matter of which tuners I want to use… leaning towards putting the couple divots for the stock Charvel locking tuners.
