"Without establishing any contact whatsoever, Gibsons team of lawyers shut down my brand Jericho Guitars’ website and attempted to stop me from hosting baritoneguitars.com and jerichoguitars.com. They shut down my personal and business email, they shut off Jericho Guitars web-hosting service, they forced me to remove every single one of my product listings offline BEFORE ever speaking a word or delivering me any letters of any kind ever.

My business has been for this past week completely unable to accept orders and after having switching hosting accounts all our sales history is totally inaccessible to me. Days later I found out it was Gibson Guitars. This is a company I once looked up to who is actually responsible for deleting the schedule to my kids gymnastics games over a shape and then had the nerve to one week later demand I give them receipts for my sales as if they can just harass and intiomidate other brands into taking what they want. I own baritoneguitars.com, baritone-guitars.com, and the brand Jericho Guitars. I will not be scared into handing over my property.

I had to hear from my customers and a lawyer in some cubicle at a hosting company that my account for domestictonewood.com and modernbaritone.com were suspended over an allegation without instruction or explanation. This is a developing situation.

Nobody could mistake a Jericho guitar for a Gibson. They may have had a slightly explorer type one, not sure. But, how far are they willing to go now?

Really, fuck these guys.

I don't get it at all. I wasn't familiar with Jericho Guitars, but to me they look a lot more like superstrats, superteles, and there's a superjazzmaster as well.

Exactly. They had an explorer that was really close from what I can Google search, but they changed that obviously later.

I don't get it either.

I get that Gibson need to protect their IP and all that. But seems to me that a quieter, seemingly more collaborative campaign of licensing type arrangements and royalties and whatnot would produce less ill will. If only a Gibson is good enough, it seems unlikely an explorer lite from a company selling blacked out $999 import djent machines is really competing with some $9k Murphy Lab limited edition Korina Legends Edition 50s Explorer reissue or whatever.

i dont like gibson at all. they could have just sent a cease and desist letter and let the process work itself out in the courts instead of shutting them down like that. completely overboard.

gibson guitars are not worse off because of companies like jericho. they are worse off because they let shitty instruments leave their factory or come up with shitty auto tuning devices that no one liked or butt ugly guitars with fx built in and instead of fixing their own house they focus on their lawyers and other companies.

Gibson's business practices certainly keep me from doing business with Gibson. Protecting your IP is one thing, but harassing small businesses is completely out of line. Doing it without a discussion is unconscionable.

They're not losing business to Dean or Edwards or this guy -- or ANY of these other guys. People who don't buy Gibson are customers who DIDN'T WANT a Gibson, for a variety of reasons. This is only hurting their public perception.

Not defending Gibson, but it sounds like there’s a lot more to this story than what this business owner put out there.

Perhaps, but I'm a tad perturbed that I no longer have a choice in buying a V or Explorer -- it's overpriced Gibson's or nothing. You like Strat's or Tele's? There a million makers of all levels of quality -- choices out the wazoo. And guess what? People STILL BUY Fender's! It's a load of crap, and will only mean that Gibson can make garbage and sell it at a premium, because, if you want those body shapes, then it's your only choice. I love my Gibson's, I will always be a Gibson player, but....screw them. They'll never get another dime from me.

Yep... I even noticed that Warmoth had to alter their flying V body shape to be slightly offset (which looks stupid IMO).

Yeah, this doesn't make much sense ATM

According to the Jericho guy's full post on FB, the web hosting company was presented with a copy of a judgement against Jericho as part of the request to take down the sites. So how'd they get that without any contact w/ Jericho?
The hosting company isn't going to pull the sites just cause a lawyer for Gibson asks nicely.

These really are decent after a good setup and pickup swap. I have a few.

I've owned great Gibsons and shit Gibsons. I dig my SG, and I liked my LP a lot that I just sold (just wasn't playing it much), but I'm not a fan of the company or its practices.
