Have you watched the film that is called 'Sinners' yet?

Motorik

Kick Henry Jackassowski
What did you think? I watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really liked the performances, the milieu (and folklore), and of course the way music was so integral to the plot and characters. I was trying to describe it to a friend, and I said 'I know you like Oh Brother Where Art Thou, well kinda imagine something of that Depression-era vibe and music but with zero quirky fun , and as a horror. '

I really enjoyed it and it looks and sounds amazing. But I was still a little underwhelmed after the reviews and the already present Oscar buzz. It's missing a little something, I can't quite place my finger on it.

It's really hard to match the change of tone of From Dusk Till Dawn without being being in the shadow of From Dusk Till Dawn

And it's a little too polished for a grindhouse movie. Tarantino and Rodriguez had a better idea of what they were doing. It's actually kind of interesting. It feels like a 90s movie by committee

But it's still a damn fine movie.

Thanks for your take!
Much as I like From Dusk Till Dawn (I like it a lot), I liked Sinners more. Obviously Sinners is indebted to FDTD with the big switch, but I think Sinners has the better, weightier first half. I'd have enjoyed the film quite a bit if it just continued in that vein throughout, whereas I think FDTD would have been a more mid film if it just stuck with the crime thing.
The music in Sinners is next level too (although FDTD's 'After Dark' by Tito and Tarantula is an an absolute banger). Here's a hot take: I actually think the From Dusk Till Dawn TV show improved on the movie.I think the brothers' relationship an motivations were better, and I loved the world-building and longer storylines.

Added to list.

What streaming thing is it on? Or is it in theaters? Man watching a movie is complicated now. :hotwing:
It’s available for direct to home streaming on various platforms. Amazon has it to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99.

You can also stream it free on Soap2day. Aka ww25.soap2day.day

Saw it last week and thought the music montage in the middle was epic….

… until the ending, which I enjoyed even more. Five Baimun’s. :baimun: :baimun: :baimun: :baimun: :baimun:

I really enjoyed it. Excellent music, interesting period piece, and primarily just a good vampire flick. Fun fact: I was Myspace friends with the composer, Ludwig Goransson, back in the day when he was a jazz guitar major in Sweden. He had some recordings up of his jazz band and was kind enough to send me charts to some of those tunes. I never did anything with them, but after I saw Sinners I dug one up and I'll be playing it at a gig this Friday.
