Help. Copper Shielding Tape.

Hi, just wanted to know if I use this stuff, obviously no one piece of tape will be continuous, am I safe to assume the adhesive will not hinder conductivity if it overlaps?

the overlap, would actually shield more. twice the thickness and all.
the adhesive means nothing to magnetic waves. :thu:

I think you are imagining that the shielding is like a battle shield that arrows will bounce off of. Think of it as a bathtub collecting rainwater and the water going down the drain. The drain being the ground wire of your instrument cable- to your amp- to earth.

the overlap isn't going to hurt anything.
but yea, the pickup, amp, wall outlet need to be grounded properly.

It will be fine. One way to test, is get a multimeter and set it on continuity test mode and touch different places in the cavity. I do that when I finish just to make sure its solid.

if you’re really worried, scrape away some of the adhesive in a small spot on each piece so when you overlap the tape it will be copper on copper. Some people solder a lead once foiled, I usually just screw one of the anchor-leads into the side of the cavity.

I actually used conductive glue once. For state police, won't say which one other than in Illinois. Really expensive carpet, really expensive glue. It was for the communications room. Before I started, I asked where they wanted me to put the (thin copper plate with a wire), under the carpet. Got a blank stare. Tried giving a clue...

Me- You probably want it close to the wall the wire will go through then, you attach the wire to the ground rod.

Cop boss- You don't do that?

Me- I'm a carpet installer.

Cop boss- Never mind. Don't bother with the wire.

The system was supposed to capture static electricity, protecting the even more expensive radio equipment. Always wondered how that worked out for them.

Some is conducting, others aren't. Use your pieces and check for continuity with a multimeter across pieces.
