How often do you get your guitar set-up?

This is my first ever bass mod! I moved the volume pot out of the way on a strat once, so I can handle that level of soldering. I did the frets on this bass because it’s too cheap (and I’m too cheap) to take it to a pro.

Meanwhile the new pickup reads 800 kOhms and makes no sound and one of the pawn shop strings snapped on the way off so this project is going the way of all projects. The new bridge is on, the old pickup is back in, the pickguard is held on with two(2) screws and I found a disused set of roundwound strings in a draw...

Any Update? :)

I finally took the tools to the new Firebird yesterday. Got rid of the factory .009s and put a new set of D'Adarrio .010s on it and got them fully stretched before tweaking the truss rod a bit and adjusting the bridge and pup heights. Intonation was pretty good, but I gave it some very slight tweaks.

It's a different guitar now. All the weirdness has been dialed out now and it's a proper BEAST. Good Lawdy Lawd! It plays so freaking awesome now. It nearly made me cry... it took me back 30+ years to being a 16 year old kid playing my '76 Firebird in the garage with my school mates.

The neck pup had been set really low at the factory, after raising it up, the sustain is endless. I put my EBow to it and experienced pure Nirvana.

Once I have a guitar set up the way I like it I rarely need to do anything else other than charge the strings and wipe it down every once in a while.
As far as acoustics go, when I need a fret job a fresh setup is in order.

I do my own work so every time I change my strings. I use Elixirs so String Change is on average 8-12 months. I have also made it a rule to change the battery in the preamps of the guitar around my birthday. Truly an easy way to remember to change it.

IT sounds like you gig a lot?
