I might have a new bike, but I don't want it

Someone rang the door bell at 12:30 AM. My daughter heard it and got me up.
There was guy walking back and forth across my front lawn.
So, I go out and talk with him and it turns out he's a neighbour form down that street and had followed a kid from his place to mine. He was outside having a smoke and he saw the kid checking cars for unlocked doors. The neighbour had watched him check cars near his house and called him on it. The kid ran and then hid between our cars on the driveway and the neighbour found him.
The kid dropped his bike on our front lawn and bolted between the houses and jumped the fences into the backyard neighbour's.

I called the cops. They eventually sent a car around.
I set the security camera to point at the bike and I captured the cops rolling up, looking at the bike, and then leaving.

The bike is still there.
I wouldn't have bothered the cops except for that fact.

Supposedly I live in a nice quiet neighbourhood.

Note that I already have the security cameras. For a reason.
This "door checking" has happened a lot before. The kicker was when we found a purse on our front lawn, rifled through, and dumped.
The cameras went in after that. We had wanted to upgrade the alarm system that was here when we bought the house. The security cameras were available as a promotion for the new service. So, we did that.

Anyway, the bike is probably stolen and the kid doesn't care that he had to drop it and run. Either that, he is smart enough to not come back for it.

Fun times

Note the drought damaged lawn. We are in a wild fire warning state with an open fire ban.

this is why you always lock your doors and set the car alarm.
it would be interesting to modify the alarm so that when you set it, it electrifies the door handles. not too much juice, just enough to cause a little pain.
bet he wouldn't come back after that.
sadly, it's no legal, anymore.

I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like

Here, they say, "Hello" and ask how you're doing.

I went to a meeting at police HQ in another city and I parked in their fenced-off, temporary parking across the street (their building and parking lt is under construction).
No tag. No parking permit. Nothing.

On my walk to the building, one cop nodded and said ,"Hello" from his patrol SUV.
I met another walking out of the building, and got the same.

Truck was still there when I left an hour later. No tickets.

Hopefully, someone catches the kid in the act and calls the cops. After they beat his ass.

That's exactly what happened this time minus the ass beating, which is probably for the best.

I live in an area where this kind of thing happens. The 10 year olds that do this sort of thing don't need to get their asses beat by a grown ups.

A few summers ago there was a group of kids door checking in my neighborhood too. My neighbor across the street had his truck rifled through but nothing was stolen. Eventually the cops caught up with them. I don't think any arrests were made but the shenanigans ended after that.

Step 1 - Chain bike to pole
Step 2 - Wait for the kid to have to humiliate himself asking you to unlock it.
Step 3 - After a week do what you will with said bike if kid doesn't show.

This is especially beat.
I gave away a nicer bike than this.

Your front yard looks like my back yard. Except my back yard has all of the contents of our garage on it.

We are now allowed to go crazy with the water now.

Drought Regulations Modified: Days-of-Week Watering Restrictions Lifted

During their August 9 meeting, the Orange City Council approved a Resolution that lifts the restriction on watering exterior residential landscaping, which previously was only allowed 2 days from April through October, and only 1 day November through March.

Residents may now water their landscaping on any day of the week, as long as they are in compliance with current City water usage regulations.

After study, City staff have concluded that Orange will have sufficient water supplies to satisfy our demands as residents and businesses continue to follow water-wise practices.

For a complete list of active water restrictions, please visit www.cityoforange.org/…/p…/mandatory_drought_restrictions.asp

Is it just the camera angle, or is the back wheel larger than the front? It definitely looks like a different rim than the front, which is a pretty unique identifier.

I'd also suggest putting an ad in your local Criagslist under Lost & Found. I wouldn't put a picture, just the maker of the bike and have the respondents describe it to you (color, wheels, etc.). They guy that gets it right is either the thief or the rightful owner.

We got some rain early yesterday morning and my wife did water it a bit a couple of days ago.
It still looks like that.

I'd rather it just stay dormant until the weather changes enough to allow it come back as much as possible.

Our back yard is a bit better in spots because of a bit more shade it gets in the afternoon and the splashes of water it gets from the pool, but we have spots that have completely died out and is just bare dirt.

Yeah, it's the angle. They are different wheels/tires but it's just a funky angle taken with my phone and then rotated.

The back wheel is up in the air because the pedal on the ground has the whole bike propped up.

Sounds familiar to me. Our back yard is mostly dead except for a patch near the wall that gets some shade
