Information on Fender Musical Corporation

I am writing a paper for my business class and I need information that I can cite from a legitimate source. I need I need anything and everything that has to do with the business itself and it structure. I also need information on where it sources it materials from, manufacturing and production, and distribution information. I figured I reach out on here and see if anyone can help out. Thank you ahead of time.

You should have access to online databases through your university library. Mergent Online may be a good resource for data on a privately held corporation like Fender.

But I think, aside from the location of manufacturing, a lot of this information will be considered proprietary. A guitar shop that carries Fender may be able to give insight on there dealer agreements, required stock levels, etc. I would also look into general things like oversea guitar manufacturing, I have been told by colleagues in the shipping industry that guitars ship from Asia at certain times both to avoid spoilage from high humidity (without paying for climate control) and even to use the time and heat to let finishes finish curing.

I was coming back into the thread to mention this.

For purposes of academic research, privately-held corporations make really difficult topics. There are some companies that research and keep databases on private companies but they usually charge a fee for the information. Even then, you're often relying on their conjecture rather than hard data provided by the company and verified by an auditor.

There's also information to be found in trade magazines like Music Trades and MMR. They usually don't like to share their data though. Local music stores may subscribe and have back issues.

Don't be afraid to reach out via LinkedIn. You can try reaching out to them - The social media contacts are pretty good especially if you're not trying to pump them for free stuff.

Just thought of something -- Trademarks and Patents.

They would be public and I expect Fender has a few that are notable for a business paper.

The SEC actually had a ton of helpful info and mergent site as well, but I will definitely look into that as well thanks

There are a few current or ex Fender employees on the TDPRI that might be willing to give some answers to some questions. Not sure if you are looking for current or historic details. There is some cool info out there regarding paint and finishes, pickup winding etc..

My friend Russ Simms works in the Custom Shop. He's been at Fender for a long, long time. PM me your email address and I will see if I can have him contact you. He should be able to answer most of your questions with authority.
