It's not a Metal Zone...but the Boss dirt acquisition continues. NPD.

I've been on a Boss dirt pedal kick lately, with the SD-1 and DS-1. However, I have no need for a Metal Zone...but I was intrigued by the FZ-1W, as I've seen quite a few people describe it as the fuzz for people who don't like fuzz. To date, I have never met a fuzz that I actually liked when I played it.

That seems to have changed today, with the arrival of the FZ-1W. I can't get a bad sound out of it. It's fuzzy, but indeed does not sound like a Fuzz Face, or a Tone Bender, or a Big Muff. Right now I have it set to modern, with the fuzz at about 1 o'clock, and it is in Muff territory, but isn't as dark and muffled as a muff - there's still definition to the tone, it's not all smeary. There's much more playing to be done, but I do think this might be the fuzz that finally sticks with me.

I've always liked it when other players used it, but hadn't found the right one for me...until now. I had such fun playing with the FZ-1W yesterday, and can't wait to stomp on it again .

It's been years since I've browsed a pawn shop, but almost every one had a Boss Metal Zone or DigiTech Grunge pedal in the display case.

Fuzz box philisophy can be summed up in one word: “backitoff.” Keep the fuzz level low, tone control low-ish and roll back the volume on the guitar a little bit and soon you will be fuzzin’ on down the highway.

I’ve never been much of a heavy dist guy, or fuzz except for the classic Strat/FF combo, for the clean sound, lol.
But I’m an OD junkie so I have an OD-3, BD-2, and an SD-1 in my bloated pedal collection. Love my DM2w, old DD3, Tuner, and GE7 as well. I can pretty much do all I want with 4-6 Boss pedals. I need to clean house.
